The picture posted above was taken after the boat ride stopped the first time. When I first went to the AK the boat was not running and the cave was still active. If I remember correctly the boats have been open more than once, but I am not sure about that.

the second time the boats were opened the boats were called radio disney crusie or something to that effect. i think the main reason the boats are not in use anymore was because guests thought they were waiting in line for some type of attraction when really all the boats were was a means of transportation from one side of the park to another. guest relations recieved many, many complaints and i guess it became too much and the mouse closed the transport down. there is a great website out there that is solely for this boat ride. alas i do not have the addy but im sure someone here does.



yep, the dis is one big mother of a site, close to 40,000 members. if you stay away from the community board you should be fine, the CB flys and it is very easy to get lost!

Wait a minute...I rode the boats when it was the Radio Disney Cruise and it had a LONG wait...and it dropped you off RIGHT where you left from...(and it was EXTREMELY BORING)

i never rode RDC so i cant say what it did but i do believe the first incarnation of the boat ride had different ports that you were dropped off at.

yep, guests were angry at the fact they thought they were waiting in hour long lines for something incredible only to find out that they were taking a little tour around the river.

I rode the ride while they were building Asia. I know it was August but cant remember the year...Anywho, it totally sucked. They put some bugs, they found around AK before it was finished, into some jars and told you interesting facts about them. Yeah !

The boats were actually self piloted. The fire was controlled via a small remote control. (this I got from a website made by a DRB cast member.)

Looks like the dragon from DLP's Sleeping Beauty walkthrough.

Anyway, I went on the RDC. The music was totally on a CD because when "We Will Rock You" came over the speakers, everyone was stomping there feet in time to the music and it skipped like 25 seconds. Twas very funny.

According to Jim HIll, who often writes long, epic pieces on all the major Disney attractions that were built or will never be built, he wrote that the cave by Camp Mickey Minnie would have the small, audio-animatronic dragon made from the same molds as the one at DLP. They wold build the neck and head portion, and put it on a dolly that would move out of the cave, and back. But the Imagineers never got the money, the suits of armor were never used (or used once, depending on who you hear it from) and all they had was enough money to build the cave and the fire "shooter". I can't help but think of the other great things they would have built for that section of the river. Unfortunately, Beastly Kingdom will remain, like its contents, mythological. For right now..

This is why I like it when we post similar posts, they usually go off in different tangents, and you learn new things each time. I never knew the boats were open a second time. Are the docks still there if they wanted to open them again in the future. You know, if their actually were several places to get off, thus having a true purpose. Also, if they ever had more effects along the riverbanks for the boat ride. Also, were does the water go on the Asia/Dino-land side... could it be used by a resort some day to have direct access to Animal Kingdom?

The docks are still there (actually called "landings")--they are used as character meet and greets, so they could easily be turned back into boat docks. As for the water b/t Dinoland and Anandapur--behind there is a proposed location for a new land (after Beastlie Kingdomme)--it may, very well, be where Australia is built--or perhaps the other continent that doesn't yet have a land, South America (there is also Antarctica...but I'd, personally, rather see an Arctic Aquarium...)

Now that would be cool. Imagine a "Wild Artic" type attraciton like at Sea World, but done in the Disney style! wow!

Think about it...I'm not really sure where it would go in WDW but it would go great in TDS! A Nantucket Sleighride!!! Be dragged around by a WHALE!!! (could tie into Monstro from Pinocchio too)

What a great WATERCOASTER theme huh?

On the inagineering forum I have a Antarctic ride idea, its really coll if you want to check it out. Its called Glacier Mountain. You are on a boat tour of Antarctica and all of these things go wrong it's awsome. It's a water coaster.

Does anybody know what kind of ride Journey to the Center of the Earth is. I know you go through a volcano but what do you do.

Why yes.. It is based off of the Test Track ride system. Think of it as Test Track 2.0.

Thanks Space42 that ride looks awsome, I'm starting to think screw the rollercoaster I want a ride like Journey to the Center of the Earth, it looks so awsome. One of those themed medevil. It could be placed in a humoungus castle and the big dragon attacks you in the end and you speed away from him. This ride will be a lot better than Test Track, I hope they make it. I have my fingers crossed.

actually, people have been saying Journey isn't ALL that amazing...just a good ride. I've seen much more positive reviews for their 20K Leagues attraction. The problem I see with a ride like Journey is that it is very much like Dinosaur (although the technology is better, it's still the same concept). I'm not sure Animal Kingdom is well-rounded enough at present to warrant having two such attractions...one benefit of a coaster with show elements is they could make the ride longer--the technology Journey demands is simply to expensive to build a ride more than about 4-5 minutes long--a roller coaster with 4 or so show elements could be upwards of 10 minutes long and still have a higher capacity

How can a rollercoaster have show elements it will be going to fast to see shows, unless it kits the brakes a bunch of times. I still think Journey is a better ride idea.
