My theory on hot tubs for adults only comes from my experiences with kids in hot tubs... A hot tub is a place for people to relax, and NOT for kids to use as a splash zone. And the only way to combat the problem of immature kids in a hot tub is just ban all kids! Yes, it does negatively affect the kids who can behave in a hot tub, but this is a solution that will make most people happy who don't want to deal with the annoying, splashing kids in a hot tub.

I agree with you on the need for better behavior from some kids. But there's no need for overkill. That's like banning all alcohol because some people who drink alcohol throw up. Better to just hold people accountable for their behavior (or in the case kids, require parental supervision).

The thing about adults wanting to relax could be said for nice restaurants, and Disney doesn't ban kids there, nor does Disney ban kids from any other hot tubs at the hotel pools on property. I would sometimes prefer a hot tub with no kids, but I don't expect to find one at the Poly, Contemporary, Yacht Club, Coronado Springs, or Carribbean Beach resorts.

For $300/night, one would hope.

Where at the Polynesian are you getting a room for $300 dollars a night? That's what the going rate was 12 years when I did my first family vacation there. I've stayed at the Polynesian several times since and even with some of the deals that were offered, 300 bucks is a thing of the past.

As for the hot tub thing, kids aren't supposed to be in them and shouldn't be for their health, but with all the vacations I have done at WDW and USO and stayed on site, I have never not been in or seen a hot tub that was not packed with kids. I've seen parents that have been in the hot tub with them and ignore their kid going under water, jumping around, etc, and the parent be talking with someone else and ignore what their kid is doing. A lot of times there won't be any parents around and the hot tub is packed with young kids, like it's kiddie pool.

I know that if I was paying the more like $500 a night for a room at the Poly, I would have an expectation of a hot tub for adults only; a place that I wouldn't have to share with diaper kids... At the Poly, and especially the Grand Floridian, I would want (and expect) at least a hot tub for adults only. Maybe my expectations are just high...
And I understand that Disney is a place for kids and adults alike, but there is a fine line sometimes of what kids should be able to do in regards to adult, grown-up, mature, etc. things...

It's so great that they are making so many improvements to the Polynesian! Years ago they took the word "Village" out of the resort name. Now they are improving it by adding "Village" back to the name. And they are adding the word Disney's too just so I do not forget who owns it. Then, they improved the room rates to the point where I can no longer afford to stay there. On top of that they are improving many of the views by adding DVC units out on the water. Those units will be so much nicer to look at than an old castle and mountain. Also they are improving the lobby and getting rid of that awful water feature so there can be more open space. I bet soon after opening they will improve the open space by adding a DVC kiosk or two. The future looks bright!

Or a good compromise to not allowing any kids versus allowing anyone would be to put a sign by the hot tub that reads something like "Children under age 18 may not use the hot tub without a parent or guardian in the hot tub too..."

And you expect Disney to actually enforce it??

They won't even enforce rules on rides...

No, I don't expect Disney to enforce it... No place that has rules like that ever enforce them. I would expect that parents would be responsible enough to make sure that their kids follow the rules that have been set.

So you'd expect the same at the Contemporary, AKL, Yacht and Beach, etc? You haven't been getting it there, because I believe children are allowed is those hot tubs.

No, I wouldn't expect the same at the Contemporary, AKL, etc.. Example: The difference between the Contemporary and the Polynesian is that the Contemporary is a place geared for families with kids to stay at, so yes, it would be useless to implement at no kids in the hot tub rule or such. On the other hand, the Poly is not as much of a kid/family place (but it is family friendly) and THE WAY I VIEW the Poly is that it is a place better geared for the "just married couple without kids" and they wouldn't want their romantic moment in the hot tub to be ruined by ruthless kids.

I think an all adult resort would be very successful. Also a private party night like the Halloween, Christmas and Pirates and Princess parties that would be an Adults night at the Magic Kingdom...
Why is it that we people without marketing and sales degrees can come up with great profitable ideas that benefit everyone but Disney can't!

uhh, they are adding a children's play area: " including expanding to include a new aquatic playground with slides for children". The poly is not kid friendly, what kid wants to slide through a volcano or ride the monorail. Not mine! They have only been begging me to book this hotel for the last 3 months. And they will probably want to enjoy the hot tub and they will behave or I'll put them on the next plane back to military school.

Ah...there's the difference. I never viewed the Poly as any different from any other deluxe resort. My kids will likely never experience staying in any of them, because of the price, but if we were going to stay in one, I think my kids would prefer the Poly over anyone of them except the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

And as far as the "Romantic Moment", now I need a private hot tub. My romantic moment in a hot tub would be ruined by the existence of a bunch of adults as well, unless we were all really good friends.

Not even a romantic moment, but just a special moment where you and your significant other are just enjoying the moment... If this hot tub had a view across the lagoon and it was just me and I could watch the sunset with Cinderella's Castle in the background, I would be livid if someone's undisciplined kid ruined it.

And my view of the Poly as a couples place is because it reminds me of a resort that you might see on the ocean in Hawaii that you would stay at on your honeymoon... Again, just my opinion, so feel free to have your own views about the Poly and such.

Per the CDC and the Red Cross, no children under age 5 should be allowed in hot tubs, explaining that "children cannot cope physically with the heat, which may cause hyperthermia and other harmful effects." Small children have a different body temperature regulation system than adults and they will overheat much more quickly. So responsible parents should not let their small children be in the hot tubs, no matter how well-behaved they may be.

Didn't Polynesian used to have a hot tub before they put in that garish volcano thing?

I remember the pool area used to look so nice back in the 90s
