Morality test

Not sure if your post is made in offence to mine or a light-hearted response that I'm missing.

Not directed at you Mr. Barnum but at the concept. :wave: This 'test' has been floating around the internet for quite some time, born from the very bowels of anti-Bush websites. It is presented as a joke but is intended to send a not-so-subtle message that saving President Bush's life has the moral equivalency of taking a good photograph, a dilemma which emphasizes and reinforces the political positions of people who disagree with the President.

If you take a small piece of the joke and paste it into google, you'll get a hundred anti-Bush websites, blogs and forums discussing their hatred for President Bush. The 'funny' part of all this is that Bush has had the last laugh. :lol:

Dark Humour is always the hardest to convey.
I take it as a joke, though in reality I would probably try to save any man who was about to lose his life whether I agree or disagree with his politics.

By stating this on open forum, you are opening the door for trolls to come in and attack this thread. This will create a bigger issue then was intended. We have seen it before a intended harmless post turned into a something that was not intended.

I think Barnum is one of the coolest people in the forum. Political cartoons are MEANT to be funny but, nevertheless, send political messages. Being funny doesn't make them any less political.

PS: I posted several political flash cartoons in the PML section of the forum that made fun of the foibles of BOTH political candidates running for President, an equal opportunity humorous shot at both of them.

I think maybe this highlights a difference in humour regarding politics as seen and heard from either side of the Pond. In Britian all politicians are seen as fair game for ______ taking - regardless of the party they belong to. We go for laugh, end of story.

I posted the joke as I had received it. But were I to tell it to my British friends I would probably alter it to either be about Tony Blair (the man who does Prime Minister impressions) or Alex Ferguson (a soccer club manager).

For what it's worth, as I first read the email I noted that the hypothetical scenario said that you would survive, so I was thinking ahead to saving as many people as I could. Then the punch line hit me and I just thought it so funny I wanted to share it my my friends on board. :wave:

I did, and my thoughts concluded that my friends on here would take it as in the humourous spirit it was intended. However I have seen people take immadiate offense at political threads and so put the caveat at the top.

Thinking more about it, I should have editied it to being about Eisner - but I was at my folks this weekend and had limited time online.

Why is it so hard to understand that the post was only a joke? I put the caveat on there to make sure it was to be aknowledged as such and not a veiled attempt to force political beliefs on anyone.

I think the way the thread has now drifted is interesting in that it highlights the different way we in the UK may view political humour - as humour and nothing more. Yes, some will twist it towards electoral means, but the US election is over I did not see it as an issue. I certainly would not have posted it before.

I have now learnt that here is an area where our senses of humour do not dovetail together and will leave it at that.

Steve - it's your sandbox we are playing in. If you feel this thread is too political then drop kick into oblivion :wave:

I agree that Political Discussions (ie, Bush sucks because I'm having to pay more tax [<-that's made up... I don't know]) don't belong here, but in my opinion, ANYONE who puts themselves up for public life also puts themseleves up for ridicule.... which is what the original post was.
