Monte Cristo Sandwich at The Plaza 🤮

Is this the right place to post a review?
---------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone, a quick takeaway on the Monte Cristo Sandwich from the Plaza restaurant over at the Magic Kingdom.

They are 🤮
It is probably the worst dish and restaurant on the WDW property.

Here we go:
  • We tried Disneyland's version of Monte Cristo a few times, they are delightfully delicious.
  • The Plaza was the only sit-down restaurant in the Magic Kingdom we had never tried.
  • We were pleasantly surprised to see it on the menu, we booked and seated in 30 mins (walk-in)
  • It was 🤮
  • It was deep-fried but was soggy to a point where the bottom just fell off.
  • The ham was very dry
  • The flavor, the texture, and -to a point the look, that make Monte Cristo unique were lost in a very unfortunate and poor execution
  • This place screams for a refurbishment (dirty carpet and a springy seat)
  • Counting tips should be done behind the door, please.
I'll give this experience: an F- as in avoid at all cost, if you must, however, try something else.

Disclaimer: This is just a personal opinion, if yours is different than mine, it's absolutely okay.
Sounds like they didn't let the fryer get back up to temp... so it sat in the oil WAY too long while the operator was looking for the right color. Blech indeed.

 Is that where it was served? Last summer I wandered over there since I heard the resort served a Monte Cristo, and I went to Primo Piatto since I figured it'd be there. Seeing no monte cristo, I ended up getting a croque monsieur and wasn't disappointed.

I did a Google hunt just to be certain. It appears to have been removed when they reopened after the Covid closure. I know some people are obsessed with the ones at Disneyland and were thrilled to have something very similar at WDW, but it was not a meal I needed to repeat. Not awful, but not something that would be a must have for me. I did see the Croque Monsieur on the Primo Piatto menu. Glad that it was good.

It's got to be hard to cook a good Monte Cristo.

I've had a Reuben and the Meatloaf at Plaza, also had a full breakfast, and everything was great.
I'm sure it is. I can only imagine since it has to be crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Mine is soggy on the outside, and hard on the inside lol. But what do I know, I can only eat :D
Next time, definitely will try a different menu 🙏

Am I wrong but the Monte Cristo I swear I had at the Plaza did not have ham but bacon. So that might be your first issue. Menu says the same too. I thought it was greasy as most of these are so I dabbed off oil, but it was still very crispy. I eat these with a fork and knife always so falling apart isn't an issue. I wouldn't say it was the best I've ever had but I did enjoy it as much as the one at Blue Bayou but both were different due to different ingredients

Sorry, I stand corrected, I meant roasted turkey.
As others have said, I probably had a bad one that day but that was just bad. I've never had a Blue Bayou one, only at Cafe Orleans.

Im gonna save you all a TON of money.. Go to any cheddars restaurant and get theirs. It's on par with the one from Disneyalnd and a fraction of the price.

According to Disney Food Blog, the Monte Cristo is off the menu due to a turkey shortage and according to cast members will not be brought back. So much for my plans to have it again when I'm back in WDW in August.

A turkey shortage? Really? A TURKEY SHORTAGE? I remember one year the DW and I saw a wild turkey in the MK parking lot. If there is a turkey shortage, will there still be Turkey Legs? Inquiring minds need to know!

not to detail the topic, but i wonder if a turkey shortage affects the pilgrims feast at LTT, or the turkey legs (even though i don’t eat them).

Turkey club is gone too. Crap on a cracker, I didn't want to eat fried food there and I don't eat red meat. Blech. Means also I have no safe foods and will have to talk to the chef which I hate wasting their time on. Now I'm bummed (eating there Saturday).

ETA: the kid's turkey is there - so maybe it's a type of turkey that is gone? At least I can say "make me an adult version" without issues.

No
Used to go to the Plaza for their Fried Green Tomato sandwich which was phenomenal, but haven't been since they removed it.

That is going to make eating the expected fare at Liberty Tree Tavern much different.

Swiss cheese should not be melted. it takes on a whole new flavor when melted that does not agree with my pallet. Had mine at the Blue Bayou and it came with powdered sugar on it which added to the no-no factor. We actually paid for our meal and then walked next door to Cafe Orleans and got some sensible food.
