Interesting, I always assumed that most of the ‘victims’ were in pre-designated seats as there is lighting set up above them....
The lights they use to light "that guy" or anyone else in the crowd are robotic lights, and can be focused on anyone anywhere.
I don't think that is quite true. Certain lamps look slightly different than the others, and we have noticed those are always the ones that end up on the screen. In addition, the camera's are in the ceiling, not up front.
I can't be sure, having only seen the show a couple of times. But I don't think the lamps have anything to do with lighting the crowd member. And I'm pretty sure the cameras are up front, near the screens. If they were in the ceiling they'd be looking down on the tops of peoples' heads.
