"Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor Comedy Club" Update

WDW is geared towards the family. Many posters on these boards don't post from the family perspective, but from their own perspective, which is understandable. But they do need to understand that just because 60% of posters on a forum don't like something doesn't mean its not popular with the average family, which is what Disney is after and who they survey.

With something like comedy that needs to be geared towards making kids laugh while at least getting chuckles out of the adults you are going to find many posters on Disney Forums that just won't enjoy the comedy.

In May I'll see the Laugh Floor with my family as well as my daughters grandmother giving us three generations of viewers. If the kids are laughing and the adults have smiles on their faces at the end of the show, I'll deem it a success as it would have been entertaining for the whole family, which can be difficult. I'll even check out Stitch again to refresh my memory since I've only seen it once.

Most of those guests are first time visitors to SGE who are unaware of what they are about to experience. I think the general consensus of those coming out of SGE is that it is a weak attraction with no "replay/re-ride" value to it. Kids love Monsters Inc. because it was a well written movie. I think we've seen the ability of Disney to take a popular franchise, milk it to death, and attach the name of a franchise to a poorly created attraction or spin-off of some sort and see it fail. I haven't read a positive review of SGE ever, and I don't think Disney is happy with it either. They're more or less stuck with it.

We're looking at another Stitch's Great Escape here.
Amazingly enough, the average guest still lines up for SGE. This is not going to bomb. Everyone needs to face it. Kids love Monsters Inc. and the characters in it. As long as kids love the characters it will bring the sparatic guest in EVERY time.

Most guests to "The World" aren't repeats. They are first time guests, and sadly last time guests at the same time. If every person weho visted goes through once, the ride will almost never be empty.

I swear, some people just don't want to see the new stuff succeed.

Very true, but people always used the AE "never had a line" argument against it when praising the building of SGE. And then once the attraction was built, those same people tried to say that SGE always has lines and anyone who says different just doesn't know what they are talking about. When it seems that just about anyone who frequents the parks sees that lines at SGE are few and far between. And even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally ;)

However, you are exactly right that it take a ton of people to be at SGE for a queue to build up. Which has the same loading configuration as AE and so on.
Just to be clear, I wasn't saying that against AE. And what people who praise stitch? I thought I was one of the only people who like it. But, I don't praise stitch. I just think it dosesn't deserve all the greif it gets. But that's nither here nor there. As for Laugh Floor, I think it's going to get some big lines when it opens. I heard that the overflow queue is going to wrap around inside the Tomorrowland Terrace. I think it's going to be one of those lines that dosen't move, but when it does it'll really move. The theatre holds some 400-something people.

Let's talk reality...

A large portion of Disney's guests are repeat visitors. People who are entirely new, never been to WDW, no one in the party has been to WDW, clean slate, fresh and new - are not WDW's target marketing demographic.

Queue..

Wrapping around might occur when it first opens, but I doubt it. They have tons of space in that building. It'll need to be the front page of the MK map to get that kind of queue - if that happens then maybe it'll get that sort of line.

I will conceed that recently the parks overall have been extremely busy. Epcot at 5-9pm was packed the last few days. Seas having a line extending outside for most of that period (that's a lot of people) Energy running full shows, and over at MK I saw Stitch using it's queue that goes under the TTA and wraps around the side of the building. That normally only happens during peak periods.

Side note, the TTA had a line that extended halfway across the plaza toward the COP, and Space Mountain had a line to get into the building for FP that was fairly long plus the regular standby line switchbacking outside. Twas very busy in the parks.

Given all those together - the show might get a large enough line during regular operation (lets say beyond it's opening weeks - lines are always extra long during those) to wrap toward the Terrace on Holidays - if it's on the map cover.

The queue will always reach outside the doors (between shows) for the first few opening months. I was told that it's large indoor queue only holds about half of a show. So let's say the pre-show fills up, there should be at least 200 people waiting to get in. Factor in the big summer rush, it's new-ness, it's Monsters Inc. theme, and the fact that it's the first true family attraction you come too, it should have quite a line in the mornings. The later shows should be fairly easy to get into. Anyhoo, that's just a guess.

Not true; about a few years ago, Disney had released some basic statistics on their average guests to Walt Disney World to a local marketing firm here in Orlando for a project that I was apart of (however I was not on the "Disney" side). I can't remember the exact percentages, but roughly 37% of all guests have been to Disney World twice within the past five years, and about 68% of families had at least one family member who had been to Walt Disney World before at some point.

I think you're missing the point DisneyChik; I want nothing more than to see a Tomorrowland attraction flourish. I'd love a new and entertaining attraction, even in the form of Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor. Hell, I like the Monsters Inc franchise and I absolutely love the Monsters Inc Scully and Mike to the rescue ride at DCA. This year alone, I've rode the DCA ride about 30 times. But what I saw at the Laugh Floor, was anything but that. Now, I can either be apathetic and not voice my displeasure with the rather lame attraction that maybe put up, or at least I can be somewhat vocal and state my concerns with it.

Slight thread drift...

I noticed in the Passholder email I received today (reduced rates for right before Easter and some periods up to early June), the 2 Nemo attractions are mentioned as new attractions/shows, plus the Flower and Garden Festival will be going on - but not a word about Monsters, Inc.

It made me wonder if the Monsters opening is being push waayyyy back?

I'd think they just didn't mention it because they don't want to have an opening day set in stone just yet. To allow some rome for last minute adjustments. That's my guess.
