DHS Monster Inc Land Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

I know nothing about HarryHeusans, its in the Monsters inc movie? Just wondering about compare and contrast, do we think it could be as well themed as melroses? Or is this another chance for them to downgrade/detheme and it end up being empty/boring looking in design? I know I need to watch the movie I guess , its been years but just wondered how you all think they may do it.

In the film, it is pretty generically Japanese. If they intend to do something special with it, they’d probably have to do something animatronic. It’s supposed to have an octopus-like sushi chef, for instance.

My kids love sushi so we are pretty excited for this aspect of the change
It wouldn't explicitly tie to the movie but also think a conveyor belt sushi place at WDW would be fun

It sounds like something that could've been a lot of fun if it was made a decades ago by the company that was willing to pay for a dozen animatronics for a 3D show and spend the time, money, and effort on making this stupid rabbit look like he's really hopping even though he doesn't actually need to.
Now? People will pay for it anyway, so whatever. An animatronic squid would just break and not be fixed anyway.
I'm sure there'll be a picture of Mike with something in front of him somewhere and maybe they'll have a menu item that's clearly still squid tentacle so it feels more themed.

They could have a pre-show room, or walk-way to the host, where he's on screen taking orders.

That would be awesome.
There are so many ways they could potentially “plus up” the design to make it feel like a complete experience.
Harryheusans is a tribute to Ray Harryhausen. Harryhausen was a master of stop action animation and revered in Hollywood for his work. One of his last movies was the 1981 movie: Clash of the Titans. He did the scenes of the Titans (the Kraken and Medusa). For more info, I recommend looking him up on Google.

This is the fundamental problem with the whole project, of course. Monstroplis is supposed to look familiar, even banal, until you see the characters.
Just a terrible idea for a land.
The characters of Monsters are special, but it is not a world people would just want to visit.
A perfect example of not everything needs to be an entire land.
We could have gotten the indoor coaster and still kept the all accessible well produced attraction that has no replacement.

Why do you think it's a world people wouldn't want to visit?
It's a very different world from anything else in the park, with the opportunity to create some really great immersive theming and unique food/drink experiences. If done right, I could see this being a world that people really love visiting, in addition to a hopefully great ride, and new theater show.

Definitely think they could have done the new building/area that builds out on the end of the street and the Harryhausens for Mama Melrose change, maybe even still take down Studio 1, but left the front part largely as is and keep Muppets there

I do hope they have a lot of fun touches in the area and Monsters in the windows and on balcony's and stuff - that they have life in the land

I kind of agree and would ordinarily 100% say the same thing if they had opted to do this from scratch, but it's ultimately hardly changing the relative banality of the area as it exists today. It's perhaps both a) a missed opportunity to completely replace with something more interesting and b) an unnecessary papering-over of an area that could have remained IP-agnostic to preserve Muppets, but given the scope and apparent budget of the project, I don't think this was a case where we were ever going to get something more transportive than slightly re-dressed city streets regardless of the chosen IP.
"Original 3", what the heck is that. I grew (70's and 80's) up in New Haven and frankly speaking Modern was small at the time, it was all about the big 2 and you really were a Pepe's or Sally's person. It was a huge debate between the 2. I can honestly not recall Modern entering the discussion until much later in my life (ie the 90's and 2000's). Modern today is just as a big as the other 2 in NH.
back to the topic...
We just got back from WDW and had 'our last' Mama Melrose meal. It was good and would recommend it to all. I am sad to hear it is closing.
