DHS Monster Inc Land Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

I don’t think they’ll do phased openings. Phased closures make more sense with both Tropical Americas and Monsters given the way the areas are designed. It’s not difficult to keep Dinosaur and MuppetVision open while bigger parts of the project get underway. Cars also doesn’t really make sense to phase since the junior attraction appears to be encircled by the main one and acts as additional scenery. It’ll obviously be phased with Villains, which will itself likely be phased. In those cases, it makes more sense.

My theory is the following:
Monsters Inc land will open late 2026 early 2027, without the coaster which will open later in 2027 or 2028
Carsrides will actually get done rather quickly like 2026 or 2027 but will be a phased opening too
The only things that will be done and open all at once will be TA and Villains since those are mainly from scratch builds

I say that about Cars and Monsters because even though I want Disney to wait and open something once it's completely finished, I think they'll feel the pressure of Epic Universe push these projects to open whatever they have as soon as possible
I can’t see why they would open Monsters without the only ride. Phased openings only work when there are multiple rides to open like FLE or SWGE. It could in theory work for TA.

Cars will require a lot of demo and ground work to remove the river and elements of TSI and level the ground before the ride can be built. I don’t think it will be done in 2026. If they break ground early 2025 I am not sure the leveling of the ground will even be done before the end of the year. I am assuming 18 months for that which puts you at least halfway through 2026 and then a few years for the ride itself.

I don’t think Disney views EU as the same level of threat as fans. If anything they are looking at Summer 2025 through 2026 getting a bump in attendance from additional tourists in Orlando for EU opening. Then Disney starts layering in their new offerings from 2027 through 2030 or 2031. If they viewed EU as a grave threat that needs to be addressed they would have planned something to open in 2025 or 2026 besides a Test Track refurb and a few shows.

It seems like it took about 2 years just to complete the Demon on Communicore West...This seems like it would take every bit if the same time... The ROA is a concrete lined basin that would have to be completely removed....then the infrastructure, topography, multiple buildings and landscape... I would not be surprised it demo runs past 2027 considering they are not even moving on this for another 6 months... I would think more like 2028-9 for phase one and 2030--32 for Villains... Unless all of the sudden they will start speeding through projects.....

So if they plan on demolishing it around maybe the middle of the year, or after summer. I have about... 212 days to go experience Muppet Vision

They could keep Muppets for a while as the bulk of the construction is for the coaster which will be an expansion to the park/built in the parking lot & so MV3D could be there for 2 more years

Unrelated to Monsters Land but I am still holding out hope that they move Mv3D to the Magic Eye theater next to Imagination in EPCOT. Just my wish, no evidence it’s actually being considered.
I was thinking that they would get rid of the Racing Academy and put Muppet Vision there, or build a theater for Muppet Vision if they wanted to do something with the Racing Academy and the space behind it.

2 years - that's a long Before/After date indeed.

I'm still at 12/31/2025, but feeling like I'm shifting it forward a quarter or two.

I think MV3D surviving in it's format is such a low percentage, but I'm with you.

The best place to go is Sunset Showcase but it's going to have Villains there for a while. It's hard to think they are going to run the Villains show until MK Villains Land open and then put MV3D back in 2030 or whatever.

Maybe it ends up in DCA again.
Didn’t someone post in one of the threads that in the Villains show audition post by Disney they said the gig was until like March 26? Like what if was until then and then they closed MV and moved it there?

🤔 I don’t recall seeing that. Interesting

There’s a couple posts about it in the villains show thread, idk if there is any real meaning behind it 🤷🏻‍♀️

If I had my way they would move the complete MV3D show to where Racing Academy is now next to RnRC and make that area a mini Muppets Land. Move in the fountain from Muppets Courtyard, add some food trucks or food carts and some covered seating themed to Muppets. Leave out the terrible PizzaRizzo pizza ;). I don’t get an actual say and I know it’s impractical to hope for that to actually happen.

The villians show opens next year in that space with a renovated theater and will probably run for a few years or if it’s a success until they are ready to move it to Villians land at MK. By the time the Villians show ends MV3D will be long gone :(. I do think it’s possible that the next show in that theater could be Muppets themed but I think more likely to be a new show designed to fit into the existing theater vs a remake of MV3D. I’d be ok with that if it’s a good show done well.

Yeah, the amount of work needed before they even start on any of the ride elements is pretty massive. I am assuming 18 months to 2 years for ”civil engineering” which means end of 2028 would be pretty aggressive for Cars to be ready and is more likely to be in 2029. I can’t see it being any earlier unless Disney acts completely out of character and fast tracks it. That timeline also allows them to spread costs over multiple years with new lands opening in 2027, 2028 and 2029 plus Villians some time after that. I have no way of estimating timing for Villians since we don’t know much about it but I assume some of the demo and ground work for Cars and Villains can be done together so maybe that helps bring it forward to 2030.

Based on all of this I think it’s a good bet that Monsters is ready sometime between end of 2027 into 2028 after AK but before anything at MK.

Not sure if this has been discussed before. So apologize if it has, but is the door coaster going to be as small as I think it is? I’m usually pretty optimistic at what Disney has in store, but this whole land has underwhelming written all over it.
