DHS Monster Inc Land Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

One thing that I've read quite often here is that "at least they are keeping a family friendly theater in addition to a new roller coaster", as if everybody is assuming the new coaster is going to be a big thrill ride. Maybe I missed some information, but I have a feeling that the Monsters INC door coaster is going to be a family coaster, more in line with Slinky Dash or Big Thunder Mountain, and less intense than Rock'n'Roller Coaster/Space Mountain/Tron/Everest/Cosmic Rewind.

Family coaster's still have low but present height requirements. It has three family thrill rides as its major recent builds. Taking down a daily continiously operating special effects show did not need to happen. Logical Fallacy situation akin to MMRR and Animation building. More egregious that it is happening again.
It will have a 34-38 height requirement presuming best case scenario.

The thing is, adults are going to go on RnRC regardless of its theme. They only really care that it’s a fun coaster with inversions and rock music. It’ll still be that after the refurb.

I’m also not understanding some people here and on Twitter taking the perspective of losing non-capacity attractions that little ones and non-ride fans can enjoy. They said in the announcement that the land is getting a new show and the concept also seems to suggest that MILF is moving over. So not only are we replacing a non-capacity show for another non-capacity show we are potentially gaining another non-capacity show in this park, both of which feature characters that I think the little ones might like more than the Muppets.

I think a lot are seeing articles not mentioning the theater coming as well. I know the ones I read just quoted disney on closing muppets and moving them to aerosmith, and then talks about the announcements of a door coaster. Now that I know a show was added as well, I'm not nearly as upset. I still think AC makes by far the most sense so you can get did of some dead ends, but at least there is a gain.

I know this isn’t going to happen but how big is the theatre next to RNRC? I never once went into it for the Cars show. Is it even feasible to fit MV3D into it if they even wanted to?

Having MuppetVision 3D installed in the theater next to Rock and roller coaster (with the muppets theme) would be ideal.
It would make a nice little muppets area with merch!

You say this but they massacred our fun launching coaster in California by having the cast of the Incredibles screaming at you every 2 seconds with the plot of babysitting an infant. It really detracted from the excitement and ruins the ride. Lets hope they do better for Muppets.

I read your post, I get that you're not advocating for this approach. It's a general question to the universe. I keep seeing people speculate that all Disney means is archiving the film on Disney+, but that doesn't make sense. Large sections of the film portion rely on the rest of the elements of the attraction, like the animatronics and the Sweetums puppet. Without them, the film wouldn't make sense.

There's also the fact that Disney specifically stated that they are having "creative" conversations regarding ways to preserve the film "and other parts of the experience."

Personally, I’m very happy that the show is getting a real, dignified closure, a likely to be good replacement, and a continued Muppets presence at the park that will likely grow. Not like what happened at DCA at all.

I, too, read that as, “it may return to the park in the future.”

As others have said, the new villain show feels like a proof-of-concept for Villain Land that could easily leave in a year or two. They will have already remodeled Lightning McQueen into a real theater and could have MV3D move in. Given that the existing MV3D theater isn’t being changed much for Monsters, MV3D could stay open there for awhile when they start building the coaster. Only issue would be the exit but they can figure something out. So, the show might only leave for 6 months or a year (if they actually choose to bring it back).

Not so much about being family friendly but being something without a height requirement. Hollywood Studios doesn't have many attractions without a height requirement, so at least the new show will be.

My one worry is that the new show will have set times like Frozen Sing Along, rather be continuous like Muppets was. That would also mean less people experiencing the show than Muppet Vision. If it is Laugh Floor moving to HS, at least that show is also always continuous

See I don’t think the Muppets’ main audience is kids. Its us.

The little kids still get to have a show that is cute and funny and has no height requirement, but with characters that are more relevant to them than the Muppets. MuppetVision is a family attraction, but so will the new Monsters show. In terms of demographics, adults are currently (and have been for most of the Muppets’ existence) older people who will be riding the coaster anyway.

That is the Disney standard now? People will ride it anyway? Two things can be true - The ride is still fun, and the theming is now wrong.

The ride is going to feel immature.

They probably would just recast Gonzo. I hope they’re at least having those conversations since Goelz is almost 80. I’m sure he’ll retire soon and I hope he has time to train/pick a successor so we don’t have another Kermit situation where the majority of audiences are alienated by his voice.

For whatever reason there really wasn't much outcry over muppets getting taken out of DCA for Frozen then never returning. I think part of that is due to Anaheim's population not really caring for 3D shows much.

He hasn’t done anything, but he is almost 80.
Puppetry is quite strenuous, so I wouldn’t be shocked if he announced his retirement in the next couple of years.

If they end up expanding behind animation courtyard, would they demolish the racing springs academy/future villains theater to make a walkway from sunset blvd to it? I’m just thinking of why they wouldn’t move muppet vision 3d there

That theater is on the opposite side of the Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster from Animation Courtyard. Any connection from Animation Courtyard to Sunset Boulevard would be on the other side

While they all saw dollar signs, going back to Eisner, they at least tried to keep each park unique, and didn't shove profit above guest satisfaction in your face like they do now.

It’s publicly traded multiple national fortune 100 company, every decision is made towards dollar signs. Keeping the parks diversified wasn’t and accident, and it wasn’t fan service, it was a business decision made to help attract a larger cross section of customers and to justify idea that WDW was a week long vacation with multiple admissions and multiple different things to see
