That's what corporations do when they look at parks as dollar signs. Shareholders, Iger and Burbank don't understand parks and never will.

Can I ask who other than Walt (to a degree) has ever been in charge of the parks that didn’t see them as dollar signs? I don’t know why we’re pretending the Disney company and parks used to be run by pure creatives with no ulterior motives before Bob Iger came along. These parks have always been valued by the company leadership for the money they make. Even Walt, who was one of the few who ever looked them as a creative playground, also looked at them for the money that could be made from them.

If it’s occupying the same space I fail to see why it wouldn’t be on the same scale? All they have to do is make a new film and aesthetically change the theater. They’re not doing, at least based on the concept art, any substantial demo work to the existing courtyard bar one building and the MV building isn’t it. I’m quite sure we can expect something of the same scale and identical (maybe even larger) throughput capacity with zero height requirement, now with the added addition of being in a new popular land which you can reasonably expect to be getting more people to come through it.

Quality is another debate entirely but there is nothing to suggest at the moment that this won’t have an identical functionality as MuppetVision does in terms of size and capacity. It isn’t like we’re going from an E-Ticket to a C-Ticket or lower.

I agree with this. There’s no reason to think the show would be scaled down. There’s no guarantee the new show will be as good as MV3D was either but it will definitely be in an area that has a lot more foot traffic so may be “more full” even if the show isn’t as good. I don’t know where that leaves us as fans but it certainly is a win for Disney. As much as I loved MV3D the Muppet Courtyard was not a popular area. There’s certainly the potential for better food too and shops that are actually open most of the time. If the Cars show (now villains) turns into a Muppets show then even better.

Talk show format? Showtime at the Apollo-style variety show? Or do we take the name literally, anticipating a scarier format like ExtraTerroRestrial Alien Encounter?

I expect it'll be some kind of comedy show, If not just a renamed slightly tweaked MILF if the concept art means anything

Quality is frankly directly tied into the daily ops side of the point I was making.

A 3D continously running show with custom effects, theater and design that contiously runs is not something you are going to likely see. This will likely be replaced by a scheduled show that will not last, if modern ops are any indication.
Not to mention the downtime that will leave the park with a void of an all ages no scale well continuously operating special effect show attraction. You can't say identical functionality. I don't think we are getting anything new of that caliber in daily ops. If we were, the specifics would have been blasted and announced by PR by now.
You can not like Sounds Dangerous or Monster Sound Show, but in reality, it served a different functionality than just running a theater that shows a Mickey short. Lackluster replacing.

We have historical evidence of replacements being lackluster in quality to their predecessor to say the least.

Yes, we can pretend it might be. If we pretend to be completely ignorant of Disney's behavior for two decades.

MV3D was the last work of a certified genius, a puppet Disney. It's the best 3d theater attraction ever created. Disney hasn't created an attraction that strong in Orlando since... Tower of Terror 30 years ago? It has never created an attraction that is as well written.

This is all besides the point because I think its very unlikely any show goes in that space. To save money, Disney is making almost no changes to the structures in Muppet courtyard. That means they aren't altering the theater. That looks bad, however, so they stick some copy in the press release about adding a new show. It can always be cut later, after all, with absolutely no meaningful consequences for Disney.

I mean… Eisner and his version of Disney sought profit over safety and maintenance. Disneyland Big Thunder crash …

Regardless, I’d argue it all started the moment Disney became a publicly traded company, made worse as the family became no longer involved.

The RnRC announcement proves that they know how beloved this show and brand are. They made extra care to mention that they’re trying to preserve a film. That could just be PR speak, but it’s PR speak they felt they had to include to avoid major backlash.

If Monstropolis opens and there’s nothing in that theater, people will lose their minds.

No one will lose their minds. A few insignificant fans will grumble and the great mass of fans will tell them to shut up and enjoy the new coaster in a box.

Disney cares just enough to include some nonsense in a PR release that will only be seen by dedicated fans. They absolutely don't care enough to spend any significant money.

We just went through this whole thing with Splash, a much more high profile attraction replaced by garbage. Until consumers actually punish Disney for its behavior, they won't change.

Splash Mountain was replaced. Even if you don’t like the replacement, you have to acknowledge that they didn’t just close the attraction and leave it abandoned. You’re claiming that MuppetVision won’t even get that. This isn’t Stitch’s Great Escape. MV3D is a beloved institution that has been there for over 30 years. It’s not just going to be abandoned.

Well... I'm still Team Animation Courtyard even though I'm wrong. I'm still excited for all of this, but sad Muppets and the surrounding area is changing at the same time. This part of the park was destined to be reimagined at some point.

I think one thing that could make this pain feel a little better is if they bring back a version of the Osborne Lights to this area of the park for the holidays and tie it into the Monster Inc energy collection storyline.

I've been studying the concept art and it seems as though Grand Ave is part of the Monsters area based on the cars on the street and the traffic light. If that is the case, I wonder where the transition will be and what it means for Ice Cold Hydraulics, BaseLine Tap House, and Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant.

Clearly Stage 1 Company Store is gone and so is the year-round Christmas decor & snow around It's a Wonderful Shop. I could see it becoming an ice cream parlor. One of the original concepts seems to showcase ice cream with monster additions. It backs up to a kitchen. There is a gelato cart in Muppets Courtyard currently. If not, it will just be another store. The main store will likely be closer to the theater exit where the ride also exits. It is also interesting that the entrance into the courtyard is giving off Monsters University vibes. I do like that the Muppet theater building will be getting more facade treatment. There is a Laugh Floor billboard which is a fun tie-in, even though I can't see them moving it over to this new theater or for the MK attraction to last much longer.

For the new theater show, my guess is Put That Thing Back Where It Came From or So Help Me - The Musical. They already have song titles and a program that exists for the show. I'll be curious if it will be live-action or a movie, but I would guess live-action. I just wonder about the longevity of a show like that and what do you put in it's place afterwards.

For the Door Coaster, they will have to reroute the park service road quite a bit with the main gravity building likely being placed behind Rise of the Resistance so it is better hidden. What you see the concept art given the scale of everything will just not fit in that building.

Mama Melrose looks like it could be slightly expanded for Harryhousen's. It'll obviously still be nearly impossible to get a reservation there as stated in the movie.

I'm very curious what PizzeRizzo will become and especially what will become of the Wedding Reception room. I can picture the restaurant hosting a Monsters University alumni event or something related to the fraternity.

Now we know that the Door Coaster is going in the expansion plot behind Mama Melrose, any chance that "construction begins in 2025" is just for that and Muppets can survive until Muppets RNRC opens?

Now I know why I had such a horrible headache yesterday. Everywhere all at once I was feeling the collective facepalm of everyone who got this news. My head still aches a little from that day. This switch over of aerosmith to muppets also makes me feel like the coyote finally catching the roadrunner only to hold up a sign say, "Now what?". What a mess disney. This is giving me vibes of earth quake getting replaced with fast and furious. We have big promises but the end result could be anything but a smooth landing. Bye bye muppets and all the nice upgrades you made to that theater. Its doubtful they will do the same thing at another theater.

One thing that I've read quite often here is that "at least they are keeping a family friendly theater in addition to a new roller coaster", as if everybody is assuming the new coaster is going to be a big thrill ride. Maybe I missed some information, but I have a feeling that the Monsters INC door coaster is going to be a family coaster, more in line with Slinky Dash or Big Thunder Mountain, and less intense than Rock'n'Roller Coaster/Space Mountain/Tron/Everest/Cosmic Rewind.

Preserving the film doesn’t require care. It’s super easy. Muppet*Vision 3D is not just a movie. Without the full, custom built facility then you’re not actually getting the complete experience.

Maybe I missed some information, but I have a feeling that the Monsters INC door coaster is going to be a family coaster, more in line with Slinky Dash or Big Thunder Mountain, and less intense than Rock'n'Roller Coaster/Space Mountain/Tron/Everest/Cosmic Rewind.

The height requirement may only be 38” but the suspended coaster seat can often be intimidating to children and parents.

Family coaster's still have low but present height requirements. It has three family thrill rides as its major recent builds. Taking down a daily continiously operating special effects show did not need to happen. Logical Fallacy situation akin to MMRR and Animation building. More egregious that it is happening again.
It will have a 34-38 height requirement presuming best case scenario.
