This is just a guess. The cost to repair two trains is probably much higher than the cost of scraping purple for parts and using at least part of it to repair pink. You also have think that the age of the trains might make it worth while to build new ones.
True but everything has a depreciation value. If the cost of the repair exceeds a percentage of the value they will not pay for the repair. I have no clue if this is the case with monorail purple but it is a reasonable assumption. That's what insurance is for.
Well the company that manufactured the composite bodies in a television interview stated that they could last up to 10 to 15 years, but just like pretty much everything else on the train as long as you keep replacing parts they could last forever.Anyone know how far the current monorails are into their projected life?

Keep in mind this isn't official yet. Based on the timeline though that WDW is "supposed" to begin getting new Mark VIII's next year, it would seem to make sense to repair one and use the other for parts. This is of course IF they are going to be getting new trains.
I think it would be more fitting to put a plaque in the cockpit as a memorial to Austin than anything else.
I agree with this. Bring Purple back out and have at least something in that same cockpit. Hell, if they start letting guests ride in the front again, I'll be one of the first in line for Purple!!!
