Monorail Pilot Monorail Wings Pin

On my recent trip to the world, I saw the pilots with those flashy, very desirable monorail pilot wings. I know as I was told before that they are a part of the uniform that the pilot checks out!!! My question is, there is a person on Ebay selling those pins, and people are buying them, therefore means the person has a supply of them. My question, where are they getting a constant supply of them? Is there a leak in the system, because as far as I know, those pins are NOT traded, like the Magical Moment Pins!!!

I'm sure the actual monorail crew can tell you something better or support what I say.

As a CM, you scan out your costume. This includes hats (sometimes), rainsuits, gloves, coats, belts, etc. I assume that wings are included in this.

At Epcot, I was allowed to get as many of each usually. I had about 5 shirts at 1 time. When my time was up, I was taken out of the system and would have been billed for any lost items I had.

I assume that monorail pilots get wings on a system sort of like this and be charged for lost or kept items. I'm sure that a pilot could make a profit by selling any kept items on Ebay.

I agree with you TurkeyLeg, buttttttttttttttt...they are making a heck of a profit, I imagine, they are being sold for over $100....how much would Disney charge for replacement????????

I don't know how much replacement things would cost. I never lost or took anything. I wouldn't think wings would be over $5-10.

"Lost" wings can be replaced by the costume department though they aren't in stock very often. The cost is $12 which is deducted from the next paycheck. Monorail cast members get one free when they complete their drive training.

They don't appear on eBay very often as they are difficult to obtain even for monorail cast members. I've never noticed any one seller to have a large supply of them but if that were to happen they would most likely be knock-offs or stolen from within the costuming department.

There was an event at Disneyland that had 150 or so litho and pin sets with the monorail pilot wings pin. the ebay auction might be from that event. Or they just might be fake!

Wow... An 8 1/2 year thread-bump as your first post, adding no real additional info to the thread, isn't exactly the way to endear yourself to the forum community around here... :lookaroun

Just sayin'...

Actually, I've seen monorail pilot wings pins on eBay recently & they still sell for crazy money. It may be an old thread but it's still sorta pertinent info.

Monorail Pilots wear their wings as a part of their costume regardless if they are drivers or not.
Presenting new pilots with their wings upon completion of drive training was a pretty big deal back in the day. Anyone know when this was changed, and why? Was it perhaps the work of the same goof who changed the beacon colors?

As with many valuable pin related items now, there are probably people who "scrap" the wings and sell them as autentic. It happens a lot with the trading pins, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was happening with these as well.

wings are $4.60 for a replacement from costuming. I've personally asked. I've had someone offer me $100 for one before. Just ask, we have stickers that are exactly like our wings, except it doesn't say pilot, and they're free :)

Are u a monorail CM? If so or if there's others out there I'd like to PM ya with a question about a funny encounter with a platform CM that happened to me recently.

This change took place actually a few years before this thread was started, wasn't the same person as the beacon light thing.
