Monorail Front Cabin Ride

Actually got the chance to ride in the front car when I was a kid. However, the driver was either very non-social or was extremely attentive to driving because the person didn't say a word to us. But it was still cool to see the ride from Magic Kingdom to Epcot in the front car.

A ride up front in the monorail used to be a "must do" for us every trip. They stopped allowing riders up front after a couple of safety incidents. While I miss the opportunity to ride I have seen some families that I definitely would not want to see in the cab with the driver. ;) I don't know how the new automation systems handle the operation, in the past a driver who came to close the the monorail he was following could lose his job.

We did that a couple of times many years ago. It was fun. There were no families with kids waiting, so my wife and I did it. I would not have taken the opportunity away from a family, but this was at a slower time with no waits. The driver was fantastic both times and insisted we take the Monorail Co-driver License. Fun memories.

LOL. I'm with you on this one. Rode in the front multiple times over multiple trips as a child and teenager. The view/experience was just incredible. I'm bummed/it's a shame my kids don't have the opportunity to experience the monorail from the cockpit.

Yeah that was a very bad wreck in 2009. Very very scary. I don't blame them either for stopping the cab rides.

My head hurts.

Just go to Disneyland.
Yep we do it every time we feed the mouse on the west coast.... Only thing I've always wondered is why does California still allow it? Not that I'm complaining, just seems odd that a much more safety conscious state lake California would have eliminated it way before Florida.

Disneyland hasnt had 4 crashes to date on their monorail line. Tokyo allows it too, and Japan has very stringent safety standards.

It would have to be the systems are just enough different, that it makes a difference. ...if that makes any sense.

I totally understand why they stopped it, but the two or three times I got to do it as a child (in the mid-1980s) were absolutely priceless and amazing. (I think the fact that my mother was drop-dead gorgeous seemed to predispose us to getting "randomly" selected by male drivers as we waited in line for the monorail -- the drivers would always look a little crushed when they realized my Dad was part of the party, too!).

Good Lord.
Not that Wuennenberg's death wasn't tragic, but can you even imagine what the outcry would have been if there had been a child in there?

Also makes me wonder what Disney would have been willing to pay to have kept that photograph out of public circulation.

Yeah. You can go to google images and find tons of pics from this wreck and a lot more.

We were fortunate to have multiple front car rides over the years prior to the accident. I would like to see WDW start allowing it again. Measures have been put onto place to make the monorail safer and avoid the circumstances which caused the tragic death from happening again. I see more hazardous issues with the buses being crammed tight and driven as they sometimes do on crowded park nights.
