I don't for a minute think that the protest from the public is all that significant. The only reason that they went to buses directly to the park was to avoid crowding at TTC. Remember when it was built, no one really expected as many resort hotel rooms to ever be built. I appreciate it, and I know many others that do as well. Not everyone feels like they have to be someplace yesterday. That type of mentality at WDW didn't happen until Fastpass was created and made people think that unless they are on a dead run they will never get to experience everything. That problem with that when it comes to the TTC situation is that in that rush a number of entertaining things are being missed automatically. So do they experience more? I don't think so, I already have them beat by two before I even get to the park. They get to ride in a bus. My many memories are being made in that process! Many sights are being missed along with a lot of beauty of nature. But, heck the inside of those buses sure are memorable. The decision to have you travel from the parking lot via monorail or ferry to the MK was an artistic one. It was meant to be a like build up in a story. While this effect is achieved, the reception by a less than zero number of the public is not quite as Disney hoped. This is more than likely why the same thing has never been done again to the same degree.
It is also my understanding that the TTC was intended to be the central transportation hub for the entire property. That did not work out as planned either.
