I was just looking over a WDI site and they have a page called Imagineering Coming Attractions and it say towards the bottom there will be a expansion and that the ticket center will be expanded, but on these boards I've read that there will not be an expansion! Someone tell me whats going on! (CONFUSED!:brick: )

I think in the future there may be an expansion, I don't think it will be massive. But i think disney needs to get out of it's slump, and with pressler gone it looks like thats happening. Disney starting to get it's ducks in a row, starting to slowly expand the park hours, new E ticket rides, and overall maintance is up. currently yes there is still an economic downturn that disney as a company has to survive. and the competition won;t let them rest any. I think in the future there may be an expansion, definitly a 5th park, and definitly more hotels. but not for a long while.

Where is overall maintenance up? My friends that work there are on reduced hours for maintenance workers only. Operations, custodial, foods, and everyone one else is working more hours and overtime, but not maintenance!!

Well, the last time I was there we rode in the front of one of the monorails on the way into Epcot and we asked the driver guy and he said that when they built Epcot they put pylons in the show lagoon to allow for expansion of the monorails to MGM and he also said that the Swan and Dolphin resorts were designed to have it pass through the middle of them like it does with the contemporary. I know he was telling the truth too because we went and looked at the swan and dolphin and there was this area in the middle of both of them where the windows and stuff was all darker and if they weren’t planning to remove the rooms in those four stories of these two places, why would they have made those big dark rectangles?

Oh, I almost forgot: The girl standing out in front of the Swiss Family Robinsons House also told us that they are adding a Finding Nemo theme to the 2k lagoon and the way it would work is you will get into these clear ride vehicles that are supposed to be giant air bubbles and that it would use technology that was used in a Disney Seas ride. She said that they were working on it behind the waterfall and that it would be opening in time for spring break next year.

oh, I know the other definition then, sorry,

when E.P.C.O.T. Center( now Epcot) was being designed the master plan called for an expanded Monorail system in the future. that was in the late 70'. so as to save some money and I belive that the expansion was probably planned to start in the near term. footings were built and desguised untill the expansion took place, Simuliarly with the Swan and dolphin at the time of there design, the Monorail expansion was still in the offing so they designed some elements to be removed if the expansion were to occur, Since the compleation of these projects the Monorail expansion has been pulled in favor of another supposed system that was announced in 99. That faded away and nothing mew, rumors or other wise had been announced. So thoes elements would become relics of unbuilt plans. Based on some investigating and the comments here on the board, no new transportation system would be comming for at least five years.

jmarc63,

Rob knew what was going on. ;) Actually, the Swan and Dolphin thing was Total rumor based off someone’s wishful thinking. For a great number of reasons not the least of which is the stability of the two structures (including elevators), the fact that there isn’t room for a loading platform inside either resort with a track going in that particular direction or that Disney doesn’t operate them and only allowed their construction to fulfill a legally binding agreement made by previous management that would have been much too costly to back out of.

Also, it is rather unlikely that the footings ever existed at all and I have yet to see anyone with any authority on this issue actually state otherwise. Having an expanded monorail system that would presumably cut right through the World Showcase doesn’t really make all that much sense anyway not to mention that the Epcot line would not be an ideal choice for expansion in any fashion since it is the farthest away from the main hub as well as the barn and had they had been planning to move the TTC that early on, I would guess that they would have gone ahead with it then since the creation of a second park made MK no longer the center of WDW and waiting for something like that which could have been done easily then, would be much more difficult down the line after roads and parking lots had already been laid out.

Sorry to have egged that long post out of you. I forgot when I posted that some people around here take me seriously.

Oh, and in case anyone has any doubt, that thing about the Finding Nemo attraction was all BS as well.:lookaroun

Getting back to the original poster...

Don't beleive everything you read... especially on un-official sites. There will be no expansion to the current Monorail system, and for many, many reasons. Money, and Logistics are the top two.

We have here the voice of knowledge and reason. In fact, it would make more sense to tear down the original monorail.

Nah... keep the original system... it has its drawbacks, but it's a big reason folks stay at the Monorail Resorts.
