We’d like to enjoy a dinner at HS one night on our pre-cruise stay at POP. I’d like to hear some thoughts on Momma Melrose. Is it on par with like Olive Garden?

Yes
The common complaint from people from the North Eastern states is that it's not like North Eastern US Italian food. That's got its own history as its adapted from Italian dishes as they existed when people immigrated to the US and used ingredients that were available there.

It's good quality food and filling. IMHO it's not as heavy sauced or smothered in cheese as OG.

Mama Melrose is light years better than Olive Garden. The NY Strip with Four Cheese mac & cheese is a must!

. I wouldn't put it on par with our favorite local place (NY metro area so I'm a bit picky) but it's one of the few "Italian" places in the area we'd eat at and never had a bad meal or service there. My guys also swear by the strip steak

I thought it was gross. the pasta undersauced and underwhelming and the staff hurried to get you out and fill your seat with the next customer. Worse than olive garden I'd say.

We enjoyed it very much (and I specifically went because @Tuvalu kept writing about the dish she mentioned - it was very yummy!)

And the day we went my teen, who was having some mental health issues, decided that she wouldn’t eat anything there and wanted something from one of the quick service places. I explained the situation and our server couldn’t have been more kind - she told me to have my daughter come back with her food and she set out a place setting for her.

Mama Melrose is not an easy location to find at HS. Its in a back corner alleyway. The food is not bad and our table was in view of the wood brick oven show kitchen.

We’ve never had to wait for our table here. One of the few that when your ADR time comes and you check in, you’re seated without an obnoxious wait. We love the food as well! Was a go-to when we needed to carb load before the marathon.

Food is average. Best part is probably the bread service with olive oil for dipping. I haven't looked to book anything there since the last time when we were left waiting for 25 minutes for our table which we reserved two months ahead of time. I was so mad that I didn't even order food. I just had a glass of wine.

My whole family ordered simple pasta dishes like spaghetti or chicken parm. (*Footnote: I also ordered the Spicy Poblano Margarita, which turned out to be the most God-awful cocktail I've ever had in my life. It tasted like bathtub tequila in which a very dirty human being had taken an actual bath, over which a whole poblano pepper had perhaps been half-heartedly waved, without ever actually touching the beverage. It cost me $17, and I couldn't even force myself to choke it down to try and justify the expense. Buyer beware!).

We thought the food was on par with Olive Garden (albeit sans a delicious salad and breadsticks) -- but we really like Olive Garden and are not wedded to any pretentions about what is or is not authentic Italian cuisine, so we were perfectly happy.

I couldn't escape the fact that it was even more overpriced than the usual WDW TS, but it wouldn't prevent us from going back: that just keeps it from being a "regular" on the rotation.

There are Olive Garden lovers and haters on here. Past discussions have been about the authenticity of the Italian food at OG vs a "real" Italian restaurant. A lot comes down to individual tastes and how meals are seasoned or varied menu selections. We dine at OG at home a lot and have dined at MM when at WDW. MM has some good selections that make it worth dining there but if there was an OG I'd opt for OG. IMHO I'd rate MM as slightly below OG but that doesnt mean I wouldnt dine there on a WDW trip.

We eat there every year. Food and service is always good. Can't say I ever had a bad meal there. Place is always crowded. I enjoy the atmosphere as well. Definitely better than OG.

That's the complete opposite of the complaint. It's exactly like Italian-American food. The complaint is that it's not Italian-Italian (from Italy), but it's not supposed to be. The chicken parm is exactly what you'd get in a family Italian restaurant in New Jersey or Rhode Island or Connecticut. That's why it's good and why it's bad.

While people may like OG, it blows.. Sorry its terrible crap...
Seriously, I'm actually blown away by the people here defending it. Olive Garden is garbage-tier. Below even Applebee's.

Olive Garden is geared towards Americans. A comedian roasted Chris Christie at a DC dinner event saying he's not in charge of the Garden State but in charge of the Olive Garden state. CC even smiled at the joke.

It's geared towards some Americans. I don't know a single friend or family member that would step into an OG. At 3am drunk, I can cook better pasta But I get it, we still have people that want a slice of white bread, med well or well-done steak with a baked potato.

Everyones likes are different. It blows and is crap shows it doesnt fit your taste, so be it. OG seems to fit many peoples likes since they are all over and staying in business. Every time we step in theres a fairly full dining area. We just had a 3rd one open up all within a 45 min drive to each other. But hey, now we now youre not a patron of them.
