Tuesday, February 27, 2018 - Travel Day, Check In and Epcot
Due to the terrible pillows, Maddie and I were awake most of the night. We just talked about our trip and how tired we were. The alarm went off before the sunrise but who cares! Today is Disney day! I ran the things we weren't bringing with us out to the car and the nice man from the hotel drove us to the airport in the shuttle.
Check in for Southwest was a breeze and we were through security pretty quick too! We were very happy to see that Starbucks was open this early. I got an iced white chocolate mocha, Maddie got a pink drink and we both got bacon, gouda and egg sandwiches. This is our go to Starbucks order. We had A boarding #26 & #27. I always pay for early bird boarding on Southwest. It is worth it to me.
Our flight was uneventful and we landed a bit early at MCO. We made a quick stop to look at the merchandise in the Earport and headed for the magical express. After a five minute wait we were on our bus to Pop Century. Our driver kept talking over the video which was annoying. He was also giving some incorrect information which I kept pointing out to Maddie until she told me I was being more annoying then the driver, LOL!
We did online check in but didn't receive a text about our room so when we arrived we headed to the online check in desk. Our room wasn't ready yet which we expected since we arrived so early. Maddie and I went to the bathroom to change into shorts then we were going to store our carry on with luggage services. While we were changing I got the room ready text. However, the room number was in the 50's building on the 2nd floor. I had requested 4th floor, 70's building but I know room requests are not guaranteed. Maddie and I decided to go to the 50's room to drop off our carry on. They were working on the pool in the 50's section and had some kind of lift in that area. We could hear lots of construction noise as we were walking to the room. We arrived in the room and got hit with an overwhelming smell of bleach. It was really strong and made me feel a bit sick. We left the door ajar, turned on the lights and the first thing I noticed was that both bed covers had big stains on them. The mousekeeper had sprayed some kind of solution on them and they were still very wet. Instead of putting new bed covers on when she saw the stains, she just sprayed them. I went to check out the bathroom and let's just say it was very dirty. There was hair on the floor and in the tub. Also, I could still hear the noise from outside, inside the room. We like to come back to our room in the afternoons to rest and having this noise just wouldn't work for us. To be honest I lost my cool for a quick minute because this just wasn't what I was expecting and I was very tired after having zero sleep the night before. I am usually a very go with the flow person but I am still human. I got it together with Maddie's help and called guest services from the phone in the room. The cast member I spoke to transferred me to a supervisor right away. She said she could move us to a room in the 80's section, 2nd floor but it was an accessible room. She said it would be quieter. I told her I would be fine with that change as long as she didn't have a guest who needed an accessible room during our stay. I did not want to take away a room from another guest that needed it more then we did. She said that it was available and wouldn't be a problem so I had her make the change.
We headed to the 80's section to room 7252.
This room is a nice size because it is an accessible room. It is a refurbished room in the Roger Rabbit side of the 80's section, toward the back. It was pretty clean and didn't smell overwhelmingly like bleach thank goodness.
We agreed that now our vacation could begin after that little hiccup.
I didn't take too many photos of the room but here is the art work that made the room feel a bit Disney.
I slept in the Murphy bed because I prefer to be closer to the window and a/c. I found the bed to be very comfortable for an adult and didn't have any trouble.
Next up: We head to Epcot which is Maddie's favorite place in all of the world!
