Monday, February 26, 2018 - First leg of our trip

Our 5th trip to Disney World was finally here! We were both so excited that we woke up very early to finish packing, make sure the house was all set, load up the car and take off for the first leg of the trip.

Don't forget those magic bands! We both decided on pink for this trip.

We were flying out the next day from the Albany, NY airport so we drove 3 hours to our hotel for the night. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn, Albany Airport doing the park, stay and fly package. This hotel is right across the street from the airport which is great. It is a pretty nice hotel but if we ever stay there again we are bringing our own pillows. The pillows were terrible.
After we checked in and got settled we did some Flower and Garden research/planning. We ordered room service which is always a treat. I got a burger and Maddie got chicken tenders. Then we showered and went to bed. Our flight was very early, 5:35AM!

Tuesday, February 27, 2018 - Travel Day, Check In and Epcot

Due to the terrible pillows, Maddie and I were awake most of the night. We just talked about our trip and how tired we were. The alarm went off before the sunrise but who cares! Today is Disney day! I ran the things we weren't bringing with us out to the car and the nice man from the hotel drove us to the airport in the shuttle.

Check in for Southwest was a breeze and we were through security pretty quick too! We were very happy to see that Starbucks was open this early. I got an iced white chocolate mocha, Maddie got a pink drink and we both got bacon, gouda and egg sandwiches. This is our go to Starbucks order. We had A boarding #26 & #27. I always pay for early bird boarding on Southwest. It is worth it to me.

Our flight was uneventful and we landed a bit early at MCO. We made a quick stop to look at the merchandise in the Earport and headed for the magical express. After a five minute wait we were on our bus to Pop Century. Our driver kept talking over the video which was annoying. He was also giving some incorrect information which I kept pointing out to Maddie until she told me I was being more annoying then the driver, LOL!

We did online check in but didn't receive a text about our room so when we arrived we headed to the online check in desk. Our room wasn't ready yet which we expected since we arrived so early. Maddie and I went to the bathroom to change into shorts then we were going to store our carry on with luggage services. While we were changing I got the room ready text. However, the room number was in the 50's building on the 2nd floor. I had requested 4th floor, 70's building but I know room requests are not guaranteed. Maddie and I decided to go to the 50's room to drop off our carry on. They were working on the pool in the 50's section and had some kind of lift in that area. We could hear lots of construction noise as we were walking to the room. We arrived in the room and got hit with an overwhelming smell of bleach. It was really strong and made me feel a bit sick. We left the door ajar, turned on the lights and the first thing I noticed was that both bed covers had big stains on them. The mousekeeper had sprayed some kind of solution on them and they were still very wet. Instead of putting new bed covers on when she saw the stains, she just sprayed them. I went to check out the bathroom and let's just say it was very dirty. There was hair on the floor and in the tub. Also, I could still hear the noise from outside, inside the room. We like to come back to our room in the afternoons to rest and having this noise just wouldn't work for us. To be honest I lost my cool for a quick minute because this just wasn't what I was expecting and I was very tired after having zero sleep the night before. I am usually a very go with the flow person but I am still human. I got it together with Maddie's help and called guest services from the phone in the room. The cast member I spoke to transferred me to a supervisor right away. She said she could move us to a room in the 80's section, 2nd floor but it was an accessible room. She said it would be quieter. I told her I would be fine with that change as long as she didn't have a guest who needed an accessible room during our stay. I did not want to take away a room from another guest that needed it more then we did. She said that it was available and wouldn't be a problem so I had her make the change.

We headed to the 80's section to room 7252.
IMG_5360.jpg

This room is a nice size because it is an accessible room. It is a refurbished room in the Roger Rabbit side of the 80's section, toward the back. It was pretty clean and didn't smell overwhelmingly like bleach thank goodness.

We agreed that now our vacation could begin after that little hiccup.

I didn't take too many photos of the room but here is the art work that made the room feel a bit Disney.

I slept in the Murphy bed because I prefer to be closer to the window and a/c. I found the bed to be very comfortable for an adult and didn't have any trouble.

Next up: We head to Epcot which is Maddie's favorite place in all of the world!

Off to Epcot we go!

We find our way from our room to the buses. It was an easy walk and we took the back way every time to and from the buses and main building.

We arrived at Epcot hungry so after bag check and snapping a few photos we pushed back our fast pass times and headed to France.

Our favorite icon! Look at that sunshine!

I see the monorail and some Flower and Garden fun!
IMG_5363.jpg

Maddie's favorite place to eat in all of Walt Disney World is Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie. We tried not to look at the Flower and Garden topiaries because we wanted to be surprised on opening day of the festival. Boy, that was hard to do! We each ordered the ham and cheese croissant when we arrived in France. Of course we were so hungry that we just dug in and I didn't get a photo. However, I did capture a photo of the chocolate mousse we shared. Yum!
IMG_5364.jpg

After our delicious lunch we walked back toward Future World. Our first ride of the trip was Spaceship Earth. We love this ride. The smells, the information, and Dame Judi! Next we walked into The Art of Disney to check out the art. Another one of Maddie favorites. Maddie found some post cards she wanted to purchase later in the trip. We went to club cool but they were out of Vegibeta from Japan. The only one we like. Our next fast pass was for Test Track and we walked through Mousegear on our way to the ride. Whew, that was fun! Our pink sparkle car got first place! We went to Pin Central to look around. Our last fast pass was for Journey into the Imagination with Figment so we rode that.

By this time we were both so tired from being up all night the night before that we decided to go back to the resort to rest.

Our luggage was in the room when we arrived so I unpacked. Maddie took a shower while I went to the food court to find us something for dinner. I got a slice of pizza which was just okay and Maddie had the chicken nuggets with waffle fries. She loved the waffle fries.

We watched Stacy for a bit and went to sleep.

Next Up: Day 2, opening day of The Flower & Garden Festival

So happy you started your report! I always look forward to reading about your trips! Sorry your first room wasn’t up to par. Glad they were able to find another room for you. You ladies accomplished quite a bit in a short time on your first day. Looking forward to seeing all the Flower & Garden sights.

Thanks for following! I didn't post a report last year because we didn't take many photos. We were just in the moment but this year Maddie turned into the photographer and she took most of the photos. There will be lots of Flower & Garden photos coming!

I'm in for your report! Sounds like a good first day.... I hope that mousekeeper got a good talking to about the first room! That's just awful!
Thanks for following! I will have more about mousekeeping later on in the report. Very inconsistent. I hope they addressed the issues in that room and didn't just put someone else there after us.

Wednesday, February 28, 2018 - Epcot, Opening Day of The Flower & Garden Festival

Maddie and I have never been to an opening day for anything at Disney so we were super excited to get to experience opening day of the Epcot Flower & Garden Festival. This is our favorite time of year at Disney!

We took the bus to Epcot and made it for park opening. Maddie and I walked around looking at festival merchandise prior to our first fast pass of the day. We each bought a Flower & Garden festival pin. I got the Three Caballeros and Maddie got Minnie Mouse.

Our first fast pass was for Living with the Land. Maddie took a lot of photos of the plants in celebration of Flower & Garden. We enjoy this ride. Maddie and I did the Behind the Seeds tour in the past.

Dragon Fruit, we have a cutting from this that we took home a few years ago.

We decided to have breakfast at Sunshine Seasons. I had the breakfast platter with coffee and Maddie had the cinnamon roll.

After our relaxing and pretty nice breakfast we started toward our next fast pass which was The Seas with Nemo and Friends. We both like this ride a lot and are fans of the song, "In The Big Blue World". We had a few minutes to wait so we wandered around the area and Maddie took some photos.

Our first stop was the Pineapple Promenade booth. Can you guess what famous Instagram worthy item we were after?

IMG_5388.jpg

If you guessed the violet lemonade, you would be correct. Then Maddie proceeded to do a photo shoot before tasting it.

Maddie loved this beverage. She had it several more times during our trip. I could taste the floral notes so I wasn't as much of a fan but it sure is pretty!
As we were walking toward the UK pavilion we ran into some of my favorite characters.

Maddie did a great job on the photos! She is so grown up! My daughter is 17 now and she is very involved in our planning this year. Our kids have always given input and love to talk about our Disney plans, but it’s extra fun to have her so involved in the planning this time! We all love Living with the Land. Such a simple ride, but so much to look at! Looking forward to reading about all your world travels!

I love the looks of that drink! That violet color is stunning! I will definitely have to try it if I ever get to Flower and Garden. Sadly I will probably feel as you did if you can taste the floral notes. But you never know and it is too pretty to pass up!

We were flying out the next day from the Albany, NY airport so we drove 3 hours to our hotel for the night. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn, Albany Airport doing the park, stay and fly package.
Can I ask how this went for you? I'm doing the same thing in two weeks. Driving from Boston to Albany, staying over night and flying out the next day. I have a thread (Flying out of Albany Airport, need info and advice) where someone recommend using parksleepfly.com which I did and now we have a reservation at Best Western.

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated :)

She is growing up so fast. We started our Disney visits when she was 10 and now she is almost 15. It is unbelievable how time flies. She loves helping to plan our trips.

Don't get me wrong, it was good. But I am allergic to flowers so I can usually tell when flowers are near. So I could sense the floral taste. Maddie loved it! She ate it with a spoon vs. drinking it. It is too pretty to pass up!

This is the second time we have done this in Albany and it was very easy. Albany is a really easy airport to fly out of because it is small. We got to the airport about 3 hours before our flight but we really didn't need to be there that early at the time of day we flew out. Our shuttle driver was in the lobby of the hotel when we got downstairs so we didn't have to wait for him. Some hotels have you tell the front desk what time in the morning you need to leave. They have a parking area for the park, stay and fly guests at the hotel. They give you something to put on your dash and you just park your car there. When you return to the airport, get your luggage, call the hotel and they will send the shuttle to pick you up. The pick up spot is outside across from the luggage pick up area. You just walk outside, across the street and there is a waiting area. The parking garage will be in front of you. It usually takes about 5 -10 minutes for the shuttle to arrive after you call.

Our view of France, the blue sky was just amazing!

We didn't stop in France so we missed out on seeing the Beauty and the Beast topiary because I was on a mission to stop at the Florida Fresh booth. I got the shrimp and grits and we shared the watermelon cucumber slushy.

It was so good! A bit spicy this year due to the brown gravy but I loved it!

This was delicious! I didn't find this very sweet, just refreshing. Such a pretty pink color too!
