moderate resorts

We just got back from our 4th year in row at the WDW and we are already planning for next year:D

We have stayed at the Pop and 3x PORFQ. We really like the FQ because of atmosphere, being a smaller resort and the fact you have another option for transport (the boat to downtown). We have always stayed building 5 riverview rooms.

This year we noticed that the PORFQ alot more people and quite a few high school groups, which were loud. We do not want to return to Value (too many people) but are not quite sure if deluxe is worth the extra $.We are thinking of moving on to another moderate resort. Do anyone have a favorite moderate resorts? Why is it your favorite and is there any special rooms , buildings or views we should should look for?

any info is much appreciated

I always choose POFQ as my fave mod resort...but I also plan around the dance/cheer/Pop Warner weeks to avoid the mass of teen groups. I love teens, don't get me wrong...just not the vacation experience I want to have.

Did you go during one of those times?

I did notice that POFQ is, like the other mod resorts, having afternoon pool dance parties and whatnot, catering to the families, which is awesome...but not if you want to read and rest by the pool during the day. The climate there has changed, somewhat, but not too much to make me stay away from it. In fact, my next trip there will be with the grandkids and they will love the afternoon festivities very much.

Maybe you should try Coronado Springs....larger but more quiet with several quiet pools and fewer children.

I have also stayed at all four of the Mods ( My favorite resort level BTW) and my top two choices are always PO Riverside or Coronado depending on what I am doing, where the friends are staying, and of course availability. Just can't go wrong in this level honestly!!! Marie

I'd recommend CSR in a heartbeat! Besides having a great main pool area, CSR also offers many deluxe amenities at a mod price.

CSR has queen beds and the rooms have been recently renovated and are gorgeous. The rooms also have a sliding wooden door separating the sink area from the room instead of a privacy curtain like the other mods (can be good for little ones napping in a pack n play).

Amenities include a fitness center, spa, free wi-fi, tanning beds, a sauna, salon, full menu room service and a night club.

The resort offers the same toiletries as the deluxes (except GF). CSR has separate shampoo and conditioner instead of the shampoo/conditioner combo at the other mods and values (a small thing, I know, but it means I don't have to pack shampoo and conditioner).

CSR has the largest hot tub of the mods and one of the longest pool slides on Disney property. The pool, slide and playground area is great and all located in one area at the main pool.

Bus service is terrific and is not shared with another resort.

this year we were at PORFQ between march 1 and march 12, and ya the cheer crowd was there and so were band groups and some christian groups..a lot of groups.

We do not mind the pool activities, we have a 10yr daughter, they are even doing "movies in the park" this year, which is cool. It is the teen groups that are a little annoying. This was the first year we notice hotel security walking around at night.

I have heard that the CSR is more geared toward convention groups and the business gang??

My daughter saw photos of the caribean beach, she thought it was cool, is it comparable to PORFQ?

We appreciate the advice, not we are more confused:lol:

We've stayed at all the MODS except Riverside. There's upsides to all of them, but I think I liked the Caribbean the best - mostly due to it's theme.

However, going DELUXE isn't a good idea for every trip - but, if it's not a huge hit to you, you might want to try it. Our last few trips have been to AKL (x2) and Yacht Club. As a child, I also stayed WL and Contemporary. The differences sometimes don't justify the added price - but it's also undeniable that there IS a difference.

I agree on the price difference, is it worth it having the extra square footage in the room and a monorail service?? For period we go, last time i calculated it would have been easily $2K difference comparing staying at a moderate resort..mind you this year we have lunch at GF and wow!!! I felt like Homer with donuts..aggghhhhh

Coronado Springs cannot be beat. This is a Fantastic Resort with a Great Themed Pool area & it is very quiet. :snore: I believe this is mostly due to the fact it is a Convention Resort so it draws a lot of adults with no kids. I am not against kids as I have my own & have been bringing him to Disney nearly every year for 15 years now, but it is just nice to have quiet at your resort. :snore: :snore: :snore:

You definitely want to ask for Building 9b. It is the closest to the Main Building & Main Bus Stop. Also, centrally located between the previously mentioned areas & the Main Pool (Dig Site). Also, the views (If you can get a room facing the lake) are amazing. There is also a beach with hammocks right outside of your door. Further, CSR has been completely re-done with all rooms now having Queen beds.

Kind of bummed :( that I won't be staying there this year, was all booked up when I called. :brick: Instead we will be trying POR for the first time. But, I will keep calling back to see if something will open up at CSR. Either way, I am going to the World (Home)! :sohappy::sohappy::sohappy:

Thanks for the info, sounds nice...how far in advance should I try to book? This year we booked nearly 6 months in advance and we had trouble getting Riverview rooms at PORFQ. Maybe it was due to the fact that the free dining plan was being offered making WDW a little more attractive for a lot people this year.

I could not agree more! Coronado is my choice every time. Aside from the great observations made above, since it's a convention resort, there are fewer kids and fewer large loud groups. It's the quietest resort I've stayed at. The quiet pools REALLY are quiet, if you appreciate that sort of thing. Bus service there is outstanding. If you stay at Casita building 4 or 5, Bus Stop number 2 is always the first stop to pick up or drop off. Walking around the lake (Lago Dorado) at night is magnificent. Now I need to go there. Thanks for reminding me.

In the moderate category we've stayed at pofq x4, por x2 (soon to be 3), cbr x2, and csr x1. We too love the size of pofq, being able to be in a standard room at the edge of the resort and still be pretty close to the food court etc...is the plus for us. When I consider the other 3 resorts I like the rooms equally to pofq. For something extra special cbr has the pirate room (it was fun to do once), and por has the new royal/princess rooms (staying there next week...granddaughter, with help, booked it for my birthday). love the option of a spa and multiple suite options at csr. the pool and their activities at csr were fun. for the bus issues cbr, por, and csr make basically the same amount of stops (about 4-5) to circle the resort. csr is near a 24 hr mcdonalds which can be helpful with a picky eater or someone whose hungry after the end of emh and is more near animal kingdom. cbr seems closest to epcot/dhs, and por/pofq fairly close to mk but not far from epcot/dhs. Sometimes in the summer cbr, pofq, or por can share buses with the water parks. we tend to be creatures of habit so decided if we didn't want to have each trip feel like a carbon copy of each other then it was time to start doing different resorts...i'm glad we did. overall we now book ours based on length of stay, who we're going with, and where we plan to spend the bulk of our trip. personally, unless i'm staying club level, have resort days as a big part of my trip (especially in the summer when we do the pool in the afternoons frequently but don't when we go in the winter) i don't spend the extra for a deluxe resort standard room.

thanks for the advice, the CSR is really starting to interest us..we will have to do more investigation (looking for photos) on the resort.
