Moderate Resort help!!!

Hi everyone. I'm not a frequent poster to the forums, but read as much as I can. I need help deciding on a Moderate Resort for our late September trip. We're celebrating my wife's birthday while there, and want this trip to be as perfect for her as possible.

My wife and I will be traveling with our two kids, 4 and 2 yrs old. We're looking for the perfect mix of kid-friendly and adult-quiet (if there is such a thing). We're leaning towards Port Orleans-French Quarter.

I'm amazed by how helpful and informative many of the posts are, and I'm hoping that you folks can help me out.

Thanks!!!!

The PO-FQ is a very nice and cozy resort... My wife and I really enjoyed it and the kids liked the pool.

The CS resort is bigger and has alot of things to do, rooms are very nice and everything is rather spaced out... The Pool area is a blast.

Riverside is our favorite. We will never stay at Coronado again. It is not a good one for kids, either. It was too business oriented. You will love POR.

I found CS to be a little bit on the "business" side of things, with the huge conference rooms and what not. I found POR to be the best and really the most secluded. If you get in the Bayou section/rooms you will be tucked away in a lot of foliage and it's really peaceful.

But at the same note, CS has a really great main pool section. I just felt personally that POR was more relaxing, and more coverage from the sun. If your in a room far away from the main building, there’s a lot of walking to get back up front in the sun, because most of the trails that lead to the main building are not covered by trees. The layout is basically one big circle around a lake (very pretty at night)

I can't really say much about CBR because I have never stayed at that resort. But you can't go wrong with POR. The dining area I thought was better than CS.

Also, POR has a boat ride to Downtown Disney...very nice after a long day in the parks.

Caribbean beach is a great hotel. There is a great tropical atmosphere over the entire place. I have stayed at PO also but found CBR much more enjoyable. A great variety on food in the food court and a great kids pool for your two little ones. My boys were 2 and 4 and later 3 and 5 and loved the kids pool. plus each hotel section has it's own area pool. Ask for the Martinique or Jamicia areas for your room. I would not recomend booking a room there without looking at a resort map first. Some sections have very long walks to the food court area. Still if you are in the right section this hotel is great.

The dining area at POR cannot be beat, especially compared to CS. We had some very rude CM's wait on us at CS. Never again...

Now how weird is that...We ran into the same "crappy" service at Pepper Market. First you have to wait up front forever before your seated. Then your allowed to go get your food with the stamp service card. So basically all the server is doing is bringing your drinks/refills...and they get a tip for this? Not to mention how rude they are, they really seemed "put-out" Sorry but we all pay a LOT to go to disney, I know it's just a moderate resort, but really we should get just as good as service as Grand Floridian guests.

Now at POR you just go grab whatever you want, no waiting in line. It's kinda like a self service bar. I don't want to seem like I'm raggin on CS, but the food actually tasted better at POR.

I will say that Maya Grill is good at CS...really good..and really expensive. But I made the mistake the first time to not get the dining plan..never again. It's worth every penny to pay for that.

Now for some really good steaks and home cooking, I really liked Boatwrights at POR for dinner. We did have to call in to reserve a table for the next day we were there, but it was worth it.

That is a good description for the way we were treated at CS's food court. They seemed like they were "put out" by having to deal with us and that was every day we went there. I love POR's food court because we usually all want something different, can get into different lines, but still meet up to pay at one time. Boatwright's food is so good. I love the pot roast.:slurp:

Here's the view from our hotel room door. This was the view from the second level in one of the Bayou section rooms...simply awesome

Those views, especially the second shot, made me miss how relaxing it was to walk around there when it was drizzling and cloudy. It really seemed like you were away from everything. Thanks for posting the pics.

Oh no problem, glad you like them. That resort was so nice. I see that you have been to Wilderness Lodge before. Is that a pretty nice resort compared to POR? I have always wanted to stay there. Didn't know if it was worth it.

Here's another shot from POR. I took this on my way to the bus stop :p

WL is our second choice if we cannot get POR. You should stay there at least once. We really liked the beach area and being able to view the water parade, the balconies are cool to relax on, and the lobby is just beautiful. The food court at WL is very small, though...especially when you get spoiled at POR's. I think I would like to stay at WL around Christmas one time to experience "being in the mountains" during the holidays. We always return to our trusty POR. We tend to miss it as much as the parks.

My family liked CS. We never eat at the pepper market though it looked very unorganized. We did eat at the food court at the pool. The food was good there and not to pricey. CS is a convention resort so we found the pool to be not so busy. I liked to jog and its a perfect place for that. Even allow you to fish in the lake.

moderate resort?

 Port Orleans Riverside, definitely for moderates. Boatwrights dining is excellent. I agree on the pot roast. My fave. too. Ole Man Island pool is neat. Kids would love that. You can always go over to french quarter and let the kids go on the dragon waterslide. they can fish. we always feed the ducks. The food court is really cool. French quarter is mostly for adults, I think. You can rent those surrey bikes and ride around both resorts. thats fun. theres a small arcade at riverside. Anyway, we love that resort the best of all. :sohappy:

Everyone has their favorites when it comes to resorts. I would pick one that interests you with the ammenities you are looking for and go for it. I am going to stay at the POFQ in November - never been to this one yet and can't wait. There is always next time to try another right?!:D

I've never really had a problem at CS, but I can see where, with the convention center and all, it could be congested, but I think that the Dig Site pool would be great for kids.

As for me, I prefer POFQ. The Dragon slide at the pool is great. I personally think FQ is very quiet, and the elegant squares and the walkway along the river are extraordinary for strolls/running/whatever. As well, you get head over to POR for Boatwrights or Ole Man Island for the kids.

Moderate's Bus Service

We are also thinking about Moderates. Leaning towards POFQ, but we are also looking for bus efficiency as a big decision maker and secondly we are looking for a great pool area and playground.
