Just wondering if anyone has used the Mobile Magic cell phone feature? Any thoughts/opinions? Is it worth the 10 bucks?

I just downloaded it today (my phone finally became "supported.") It seems that the app will be most-helpful when you're actually in the parks, as it will use GPS positioning to verify that you are indeed in the park, then give you exact wait times, fastpass return times, characters near your current location, etc. But there's some neat "anywhere" features, like park maps, transportation info, dining info, park hours and events, weather, and so forth. So yeah, for 10 bucks every six months, I think it's a decent fun diversion.

Does Verizon charge data rates when using the app or just minutes? We don't have a data plan and don't want to pay $1.99 per MB to use this app on top of paying $10 for it to begin with. If it just uses minutes to use it though, that's fine.

Here is the rules from the Disney Mobile Magic App-

Exclusive to Verizon Wireless customers, Mobile Magic is available for download and purchase for $9.99 for a 180-day subscription*. Verizon Wireless customers can also text MAGIC to 2777 to purchase the application on a wide variety of feature phones. Download and message charges may apply. Airtime or megabyte data charges may apply when browsing, downloading and using certain applications.

I personally have not used the app. it was not out when I went in Nov. and the phone I currently have does not support it ( thank goodness it is almost time for an upgrade)

It *may* use data. I'm not certain, but it would, indeed, seem reasonable that it would.

Apps don't use minutes. They use data. Voice calls use minutes.

How accurate is the information concerning wait times? I saw someone with a disney application on the iphone and the results didn't look right. Granted I wasn't in the park but a 30 minute wait time for Space Mountain during the afternoon on a holiday season seem unlikely.

How does the application update wait times, is it updated by Disney or by people in the park with the application.

I am not 100% certain, but it is logical that it is data. This isn't like getting a text message or something. This data is being fed from the 3G network most likely as data. If the application is active, then it will be receiving updates constantly. I can't see that happening as minutes. Peoples bills would go out of the roof if they forgot to turn it off.

I just wish the darn thing would work on my Droid.

It is an Awesome App. I Downloaded it before our trip in Jan and it really seemed to be right on. saved us a walk one day--the kids wanted to go on Buzz when we first got to the MK for EMH, but I looked and it was a 30 min wait--Pirates was no wait--so we went around that way and by the time we got to Future World everything was a walk on. :)

I have the $10/month Internet for my phone and did not pay any extra for using the App.

It has a Trivia game to play against other users--- The kids and I love doing that!!

That sounds like so much fun....my gf's son has it and likes checking on wait times for fun here at home.....makes me consider paying more to rehookup internet....then again I pay $7.50 a month for 240 minutes with no internet capacity....all I need but these new apps sound like such fun toys....:king:. Don't need but want....:lookaroun

There are two kinds of apps for wait times.

The Verizon app is in conjunction with Disney. It gets it's information on wait times, Fastpass, and other data from the WDW feed. So it displays what is currently on the ride wait time signs.

All other apps are third party apps that rely on users to post current wait times to the app, and then it updates its data accordingly. If nobody posts current times, or someone posts fake times, then it is not accurate at all. If you saw it on an iPhone, then this is the app you saw.

There is a also a free Disney sponsored app for all phone that shows general wail times - something like short medium and long. The Verizon app that uses specific real time data reverts to this mode when you leave the park. This prevents someone from buying the Verizon app and then using it as a data feed to update a competing park information app (unless they want to sit someone in each park and do it)

Does anyone know when/if MobileMagic will be available for android OS...just got a new DroidX on VZW, and can't find many good Disney apps. Undercover Tourist's app is pretty good for wait times, but I'd like to see more, such as entertainment and restaurants.

Thanks. Gary
