MNSSHP or MVMCP

I am planning a trip for the fall, and I am wondering what people have to say about Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and comparing it to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, when someone has already been to MVMCP and not MNSSHP before. I have read other threads that suggest MVMCP is the best choice when a someone hasn't been to either.

Here's my dilemma, I do not get to travel to Disney Parks often, but this fall I am planning on going to DW. I have been to MVMCP, but never MNSSHP. I loved MVMCP, the snow, parade, play, pins, etc. And the time of year (that particular year) the weather and amount of people in the park was great. I went the second week of November. So my question is do I go to MNSSHP, because I haven't been there before, or do I go to MVMCP again, because I loved it? :) I do not have kids, so trick or treating with the characters isn't really my thing. What other special event features does MNSSHP have at DW?

Thanks for any suggestions.

If you're going to see both, I think it's always a good idea to do MVMCP first, because it can seem like a let-down after having done MNSSHP. Of the two, MNSSHP is the better party!

You should absolutely to to MNSSHP! First, you haven't done that and new experiences are always good. Second, its so much better!

The parade is better because it was designed to be seen at night...and it has a bunch of cool stuff - caretaker and dog from HM, dancing ghosts, gravediggers (awesome!), that float with the cool "It's good to be bad" music where they play the guitars. The only things I don't like are the cowboys and the chicken...just not very Halloweeny, IMO. Bawk, bawk, bawk...what about that says, "Halloween?" I ask you. Let me know after you see it.

The fireworks are fun - excellent soundtrack. The castle show is great.

Headless horseman! Rides before the parades. He may be my favorite part.

The barbershop quartet gets dressed up for Halloween and sings Halloweeny songs. I look forward to them every year.

You can trick-or-treat, if you want. I don't usually. I even talked older kids out of it by promising to let them buy all the candy they wanted at the grocery store, lol. The lines are long most of the night.

Like with MVMCP, the 7 dwarfs show up for pics and various other photo opportunities are available.

The only ride I would honestly suggest riding is Haunted Mansion. They do a little extra stuff over there for the party.

There are always several new pins to buy and some Halloween standard ones, too. With you on the pin thing (for better or worse, lol.) There is other party-specific merchandise, but I never get it and can't remember anything but "ugly T-shirts."

It is a fun time and if you're lucky enough to be able to go (and can afford it!), I think you should. :) Have a great time!

eta: if you enjoy the horror part of Halloween, check out Halloween Horror Nights at Uni. Also fun. Very, very different! But great fun, if you're into that sort of thing (which I am. :)) Not for kids, though.

It's great to know that you loved MVMCP because we are going in December this year :)

MNSSHP is so much fun! We went in 2011 and we went back at the same time in 2012. The fireworks and the parade are awesome and the music is so catchy. We loved getting to dress up, and all the costumes are fun to look at. You would love it, and if you have already been to MVMCP then I would suggest MNSSHP.

Plan the trip right and do both! That's what I'm doing this year! Heading down for the last Halloween party and staying until the day after the first Christmas party (there is only about 8 days separating them, historically). I call this my ultimate trip and this year it's happening, as I just joined DVC :)

We did MVMCP first. I really loved it because I love Christmas! Last year we did MNSSHP and I liked it better. I liked the Halloween parade better, but only by a little bit. Holiday Wishes though is far superior to Hallowishes, IMHO. The characters dressed up in costumes are really cool, too. I think you will like MNSSHP if you liked MVMCP.

Two totally different parties. If you love Christmas and all that comes with it then the Christmas one is for you.
The Halloween one is more fun for the whole family. We have done both and both are great but Halloween the whole family dressed up. In the park there were lots of Disney characters like you have never seen before. Like Cinderella, Ariel, Snow White and Belle who were 4 men all over 6' 4' and around 250 +. To see a family dressed in all the Characters from one of the movies is great. Just imagine a family of 100 & 1 Dalmations (not actually 100 & 1) or Cinderella, the Prince and the wicked mother & step sisters and many others. The Halloween one to me has more people immersed in the feel of Halloween and Disney.
BTW my wife and I were the only Zorro and his lady at the party several CMs mentioned it.

Our family loves both...but I would side with the other posters & say MNSSHP is a bit better. We tend to travel in the fall months as well.
I am the same way too...I don't want to 'change' something that I know that I already like. But I think you will LOVE the HP, if not the same, a bit more! Have fun & happy planning!!!

F&W Fest still going on then as well? That's a Jackpot!

I've seen both. Enjoyed both thoroughly but I preferred MNSSHP over MVMCP believe it or not! The headless horseman is a MUST see so get your spot early, the decorations, the parade was awesome and the fireworks show hands down (Hallo-Wishes) topped my all time list!! I went solo so did not trick or treat either and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Spent lots of time in my "spot" so I didn't miss anything and CM's were more than happy to stop and talk for minutes at a time. If you haven't seen MNSSHP - it's a must do! :D

My Wife and I liked both but being big Halloween fans, we like MNSSHP best. Where else could you go trick or treating as an adult and not get looked at funny? :D

Loved them both, but for different reasons...
We did MNSSHP first. It was just DH and I, and I wanted to meet Maleficient...I did!!! We had a wonderful time. We did not worry about the first parade and enjoyed the sights, sounds, and the Wishes Dessert Party. We, then, rode a few rides and went to the second parade...a lot less crowded. The rest of the evening was easy-going, because the park was empty.

We did MVMCP in 2012. This was with our family...DS and his family, DD and her beau, my mom, and my brother and his family...3 children under 9. The kids had a magical time. I love Christmas and I had everyone there, so I, as did my DH, had an amazing time. The kids loved seeing Santa at the Magic Kingdom and dancing with the Toy Story characters. During the first parade, the rides were empty. We watched the fireworks from the center of FL; it's a magical place to watch them...fireworks ALL around you. We, then, went to Sleepy Hollow and found a spot for the second parade. My daughter's beau hadn't been to Disney in at least 20 years...sitting next to him during the parade and seeing his face when he realized that the floats had 'smell-a-vision"...priceless. He now talks fondly about the trip...he was reluctant to go but did it for her. Anyway, again, after the second parade, the park was OURS!!!!

If you can do them both, then I would suggest both.

We have only done MNSSHP, multiple times.
Mostly because we like the smaller crowds compared to the busy-ness of the Christmas Party. But I have heard both are a blast.

I went to MVMCP in 2007, the one of the days between the 9-18 of November, I don't remember the date of the party. I think it was a Thursday, but don't hold me to that. ;) THERE WAS NO ONE IN THE PARK, well almost. :) I have pictures of wait times saying 5 mins. and that was just to walk to the front of the line of the ride. I rode Space Mountain at least 5 times in a row getting right back on no wait. So it is possible to see MVMCP without it being very crowded. I cannot say what it's like closer to Thanksgiving or in December. I suggest going in the middle of November. For the party they let a much smaller amount of people into the park (than a normal day's entry) in the first place, that we had absolutely no problem doing everything we wanted to do! And more.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I think I will certainly go to the Halloween Party! My trip will be about 9 days again, if I can manage a trip around doing both, I will certainly do that! Hadn't thought of it before. I guess I thought there was a greater span of days between parties.

I have been to both special events. MNSSHP is my favorite because of the parade and firework show, and a very colorful Main Street with all the halloween lights and displays.

Thanks for all your help. My trip is booked!!! Going in October and will be buying MNSSHP tickets as soon as they are available!! Now I am excited! I cannot wait to see the Halloween party parade and fireworks! The headless horseman too! ;) I am thinking a Thursday party if there is one would be best for crowds. Any suggestions on that?
