MNSSHP costume question

I just got my ticket last night for next Thursday MNSSHP. Now, I was wondering, how many adults dress up? I really want to, but I don't want to spend a fortune on a costume and only wear it once. Does anybody know of a site (besides Ebay) that I can find Disney costume sewing patterns? I've been doing a search and have come up empty handed! I do have a halloween shirt from the Disney Store to wear, but I would love a costume. Thanks for any help anybody can give me!

Unfortunately (!!!) Disney no longer seems to be licensing patterns for adult costumes. I don't know why this is... the pattern books are still full of Disney kids' costumes! Other than eBay I don't know of any sites. But here's an idea- a few years ago I wanted to be Aurora and could not find a pattern. I did, however, find a pattern for a wedding dress that had a similar cut. It was easy enough to make it blue instead of white. All I had to do was add the funky collar and the thing around the waist. I also added some embellishments to make it interesting. Here's a picture:

Did you have a character in mind? I was playing around with being Cinderella or Tinkerbell this year and found patterns that would work. I think I still have them bookmarked if you want me to show you where to get them.

Thanks. My mom had to walk me through it. I'm sure she is relieved that I decided against making one this year. She dodged a bullet last year too when I decided to be a pirate.

Unfortunately, Simplicity is the only company that trademarks Disney. Two years ago, they had a few Adult Disney costumes, but they slowly did away with them (Good thing I stocked up!) Now they only have child, toddler, pet, and doll Disney costumes. And they are even doing away with some of them (Once again...good thing I stocked up on Cindy!)
Here is a link for the children's simplicity patterns:
http://www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?cat=4&type=20&sec=0&id=114&startrow=1

I am currently making Belle for a customer, and I need to enlarge it. The patterns are pretty basic, so even with limited skills, you should be able to buy the largest child, and resize it to fit you. I am also in the process of resizing the Cindy costume to fit me. There are plenty of websites that show you how to resize patterns out there.

Or you could just alter an existing pattern like Erika said. Have you tried a thrift store? Some of those wacky dresses from the 80's, along with a few sashes or collars would make a great Disney princess dress.

Let me know if you need any more help...sewing is my specaltie! (and spelling is not as you can see :) )

Yeah I agree with Sew, helped a friend blow up a coustume and it turned out great. Last year I went as Belle and had to do what Erika did and find a pattern similar to it, it turned out great !

TheDisneyGirl what are you wanting to go as, and who cares if many adults are not dressed up , you would be having fun right?? I still dress up till this day and nothing is going to stop me :D

Thank you so much for your suggestions! I appreciate them greatly!

I'm not worried about being the only there dressed up, (I could care less!), I just don't want to be the only one there NOT dressed up. I'm hoping to get to a Halloween costume store this weekend, to maybe through something together...but it looks like I'll be working all weekend (probably everyday until I leave) so I won't be able to sew anything with my mom. I'll have to see...like I said, I do have a halloween shirt from the Disney Store to wear...

It's too bad my twin sister couldn't come along. We were going to dress up as the Tweedles or Chip and Dale!

You can always take the easy way out and be a pirate. Fancy pirate, silk top, grungy pirate, something grungy... :animwink:

When you get to the park head to Adventureland and buy a hat and gun.

Just a suggestion. :)

We went to Mickey's party Friday night. There were a lot of adults dressed up. We saw a lot of families dressed as pirates, Rennaissance was very big with adults and Wendy, Peter Pan and Tinker Bell probably were the most popular. I took a costume but it was so hot I knew I'd be uncomfortable, so I didn't wear it. FYI, the parade was great and the fireworks were good, but not as good as Wishes in my opinion. Oh, the adults who didn't wear costumes did wear Halloween shirts and vests, etc. There were long lines for candy and free pictures. We didn't get much candy and had our pictures made right before closing at midnight. They will be mailed to us later. The Haunted Mansion, Tikki Room, Jungle Cruise and Splash Mountain were all great late at night. You'll have a great time no matter what you wear. Enjoy!!
