The big problem with this method is that it would really degrade how the castle looks in the daytime. I can never see them doing this.
I loved the show and am glad to see it will continue. Does anyone have pictures of the projectors in their current location. I never noticed them but I was not looking for them either.
There is a big difference between decorative lighting and covering the entire castle in an LED display grid to give a clearer show. You can place the decorative lighting on without obscuring many details. To cover the castle for a show display would be more like covering it with a wraparound jumbotron from a football stadium. They already do, every November-December:

I beg to differ. He was talking about them being cheaper to run than the cost of electricity and the bulbs for the projector. Projector as in MM&Y not Christmas lights. If you are going to replace projections with LED, you need a projection board, not strings of lights. The Christmas lights had nothing to do with the conversation. But he wasn't saying that, he was talking about the LED Christmas lights.
Hopefully this refurb will cause the elimination of the asinine Phineas and Ferb sequence and restore the great Julie Andrews to the show. The first time I saw it without her, I nearly ran away crying. The fact that she, a true Disney legend, got the ax in favor of that stupid platypus fad irks me. What's next, replacing the Walt segment with Jake and the Neverland Pirates?

Simple fact is that you can't do that show with Christmas lights. It doesn't work. That is my point. You would have to have an LED board wrapped around. So it is ridiculous to even suggest using them because it can't be done. If you think the show can be done with wrapping the castle in the dreamlights, then you have no idea how a proper projection works. It's all about the pixel count. So really, it doesn't matter. If you go back to the beginning of the conversation, it started with someone suggesting the projectors replace the LED christmas lights, and then someone else said that the LED dreamlights, which are the official name of the christmas lights, are better looking than the projectors due to the depth and point of lights offered. Then another person, the person you replied to, said that the LED lights are cheaper to run than projectors being on all night fro 2 months.

My apologies. I completely missed the thread jump from MM&Y to Christmas lights. Not sure why anyone would think that projections would replace the Christmas Lights. I agree, that does not work either. Looking back, they usually don't start the light install until September. Probably the same time the projector work is being done. If you are going to be disrupting the castle facade for the setup, might as well schedule the down time for the same period.
Won't happen. The cost to operate and maintain those projectors far exceeds the cost of installing and maintaining the Christmas lights. Those things are not designed to run for hours on end. One month in the holiday holiday season would be about the equivalent of a year of use on those things.I think the topics may become inseperable. I thought they started the install of the lights in August but I am not positive. I still think the projections may ultimately replace the castle lights. If not this year or next than after the FLE opens completely.
