Well here we sit, 'lil over a week away from the 2012 MLB playoffs. Several teams have already clinched a coveted place in the October postseason: (Nationals, Braves, Reds, & Giants). Yet 6 more playoff openings still remain, and for the teams still fighting to fill them, this next week shall be quite interesting.

Welcome to the 2012 MLB Postseason Thread! (Or, for the next week, the Exciting Final Days Of The Pennant Race Thread). :D

Upon entering this thread, please state your team (whether playoff-eligible or non). I have hot dogs & beer set up at the table (Mr. Pibb for those under-21 members). Help yourself, but NO pushing or cutting in line! (That goes double for you, Nemo14). Let's have some fun & talk baseball!

A few other rules:
-Please keep Yankee-bashing comments to a minimum of 3 per-post.
-Be EXTRA kind to Cubs fans, as this is a very sensitive time of year for them. They are certainly in our thoughts & prayers.
-If you are caught spitting chewing tobacco onto my floor, you will be kindly asked to leave the thread & not take part in further conversation.

Now... PLAY BALL!

My team is the Toronto Blue Jays. However, since the Jays will not be in the playoffs this season, I will be rooting for my 2nd favorite team throughout October: the Atlanta Braves.

What does everyone think about there being 2 wild card teams from each league going to the playoffs? I am personally for this decision, as it will: A). Add more to the postseason and B). Guarantee some great one-game duel-to-the-death matchups every October.

Once again dissapointed Mets fan, but happy to see the Nats finally get some postseason play. although a divisional rival I will be rooting all the way for Davey's squad.

Also, like the expanded play-offs. Now at least there is some benefit for winning your division.

I like it because its more exciting towards the end but some worse teams are in the hunt right now (brewers, phillies, and d-backs are all in the mix but really aren't playoff teams in my mind)

The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim:) My Dodgers don't seem to be doing it this year but I still believe the Angels might still have a chance.

My dad was born in New York, so I'll never be a Yankee hater. At the same time, this is Dodger and Angel town, so...

A word from Northern California …… Go Giants.
Didn’t think this possible at the start of the season….. but the pitching has me worried.
A Bay Bridge series you say (Oakland vs San Francisco)?
Think I just felt the earth move!!!!!
I’ve been to WDW several times in March to view Spring Training for the
Braves. Got to give them a shout-out.

I'm over 21, but I'll take a Pibb Extra, thanks. These playoff games tend to go on until midnight and I have to stay awake.

I was a Cards fan growing up, then adopted the Orioles after moving here, then eventually we got our own team: the Nationals. It looks like all 3 will make the playoffs, but I have to go with the Nationals since they've never won anything before.

Those could be the two most dangerous teams this postseason (imo).

For the Giants, Tim Lincecum is heating up at the right moment, and has been vicious on the mound lately. After the 2010 postseason, we know what he is capable of when it really counts. 2012 hasn't been his best season by a long shot, but if he has a good Sep/Oct...none of the previous months will matter. Of the teams which have guaranteed a playoff spot thus far, the Giants would have to be the dark horse due to their uncharacteristic struggles during many parts of this season. Yet on paper, they have the most dangerous pitching rotation...if it can come through. The Nationals & Reds may be riding high, but should be a bit concerned over San Fran & it's gradually improving pitching; especially considering not how, but when they're getting hot.

As for the Braves...they're ticked. They have so much to play for after last season's historic collapse which came down to their final game of 2011. It was humiliating, it was historical, there's no denying...they're ticked over that. You could see the fire in this team when Freddie Freeman hit his walk-off home run to clinch their playoff spot last night. It will be interesting if the St. Louis Cardinals clinch the 2nd wild card spot still for grabs in the NL. This would mean the Cards & Braves meet in a one game do-or-die playoff match. Granted, the Cards look impressive again this year, and certainly playoff-worthy. But the Braves will be far from forgiving after last season's outcome. Repeat or revenge?

That's payback for tampering with my cross-country bicycle during the summer Olympics.
*proceeds to laugh maliciously*

*returns to watch the Oakland A's hammering the Texas Rangers in the 4th inning on ESPN*

Good chance they'll get revenge. If the Braves start Medlen they'll be heavily favored to win the wild-card game. They've won 22 straight with him starting.
