This many be a touchy/down low question.. but what are the rules of parking at the contemporary or poly as a "easier way" of getting into the MK? I have found most of the time if you say your "visiting" and you show your ID they will let you in. But is there phases they go through depending on how busy the lot is? Or is it a hit or miss depending on the security guard if they ask you for more info like a guests name, room number, dinner reservation, etc?

They should have a AP lot right next to the MK for those who's pet peeve is the "journey" to the MK..

Yes the resort parking lots near to MK at busy times will close to anyone who is not staying there, or who has a confirmed dining reservation.

I think I read that Walt Disney intentionally designed the Seven Seas Lagoon to separate the parking lot from MK because he thought having the parking lot next to theme park ruined the sense of place.

It says something that they never did it again at the other parks.

I guess Walt didn't always have brilliant ideas.:)

You might have read that some where but it is hard to design something 5 years after you are dead. It was designed partially for that reason because it was part of the show theory that Disney parks were designed using. He may have mentioned it to some people as a thought of how they might have created a better space in Disneyland, but I don't really think that he even had a thought about it in the limited time that he had to look at the Florida property. EPCOT, as you know, was his priority.

I can't help but wonder, when someone says in their opening sentence..."touchy/down low question", if then it is already known that it isn't supposed to happen that way. Why even ask it? It's doubtful that you will get the answer you are looking for. Wrong is wrong and this is hardly an original idea.

The following is just my opinion...I know that not everyone feels this way about it. But if one calls themselves a Disney fan to the extent of holding an AP and at the same time feels that the "journey" to MK is a pet peeve then they are missing a key ingredient to being entertained and are more focusing on the destination rather then the joy of the trip.

Parking in the MK lot really isn't a hassle. It is kind of fun to take the monorail or the ferry over. We have always parked there really early so we didn't have to take the tram or park far from the TTC. I suppose the only hassle is the parking fee if you are staying off property. But really if you are going to WDW the parking fee isn't that high that it is going to break the bank.

Second time today that I've LOVED one of your posts!

It may be "fun" in the morning or afternoon when it's an almost immediate board. It's another thing entirely at the end of the night, when you're tired and 30,000 other people are all trying to leave at the exact same moment. It quite frankly, sucks trying to get out of MK. Even on a "normal" night it can easily take an hour from the time you want to leave to the time you're actually driving away. Don't even get me started on a busy night, or a night when the entire monorail system goes down. (Been there for that.)

Since AP's get free parking, it's not about the cost. It's just really, really inconvenient and I wish there was a better or closer parking lot as well. MANY people do; this topic has come up before and you'll find a lot of agreement with the nice idea of isolating the park from "the real world" but the very poor real-world experience of it.

To the OP, you can always valet at the Contemporary that way you're not on a time limit and it doesn't matter if you have a dining reservation. You'll pay for it, but it might be worth the cost to save the hassle at the end of the night.

it was built so far away so AP holders can rant about how horrible and dreadful it is to take the monorail or boat over and to try and figure ways around it so Disney can enforce new rules to prevent it. this is not Disneyland as if WDW needs AP holders...it is the most visited theme park on planet earth.

but that's just my two cents.

I guess we don't really leave until the mass exodus of people have left. It might not be so much fun leaving with the huge crowds. But we sometimes have left with large crowds going to the buses back to our resort, that isn't much fun either. I guess my main point was, if someone is trying to have "cheap" parking by parking at a resort, the parking fee for the theme really isn't that that expensive considering all the money put into the whole vacation.

That would probably be because of my awesomeness coupled with my, over the top, humility. This is the very fact about me that my X missed completely. Go figure!:joyfull:

*sigh* if only I wasn't such a happily married woman....

There are times when parking in the main lot is necessary if you will be at the MK for awhile, but for times when you want to go into the park to get desert, go on a couple rides and see the fireworks on a night when you have to work the next day lol, that's when you want to get in and out quick.

Right but the OP was talking specifically about Passholders; where there isn't an entire vacation cost like a normal visitor. And we get free parking anyway so the cost of parking is moot. And I know for me personally, I'm there once a month or so and the "experience" of the MK approach isn't something I need every time in order to get the whole "on vacation" feeling. And, when you go a lot, you deal with the lengthy and frustrating parking lot to TTC to MK and vice-versa thing a lot more and it gets a lot less "fun." *shrugs*

Wait, you're an AP holder? So this isn't about saving money it's just about saving the 20 minutes it takes to take the tram and monorail?

Epcot has desert, rides, and nightly fireworks and is much quicker to get into.

Getting there on a busy morning can be just as bad. It took well over an hour for me to get from the car to inside the park.

I will honestly never stay off property again after dealing with trying to get in and back from the parking lot.

I can see how it is supposed to be a journey, but standing in line with the sun beating down for a ferry isn't a really fun journey.

Please don't. People like you are why I have a hard time finding a parking spot when I'm staying at the BLT.

The rules say that you cannot do this. Could you get away with it? Maybe. Maybe not.

There have been times I've gone somewhere other than the MK just because I didn't want to deal with getting in and out, lol. It is harder to get to and from your car than the other parks. But I might as well just park at the TTC and deal with it, if I'm going to go to the MK.

This is not a big deal for me, really.
