It's been reported there's been an electrical fire at Magic Kingdom and all attractions are inoperative.

I didn't know anything about it until I read several sources on Twitter:
"Read that almost every ride at the Magic Kingdom is down at the moment due to the air compression system not working."

"It seems to be contained to MK, Pirates, Peter Pan, Astro Orbiter, Big Thunder, Space, Splash, Stitch, Aladdin."

"An air compressor in the Magic Kingdom lost power this morning shutting down multiple rides. Disney says it expects all rides will be back up and running "later this morning."

YIKES!

That is crazy. Hope they get it fixed, soon!

Who would have thought all those attractions were linked in some way? Must be at a central power station or something.

I'll bet electricians are going nutz right now, wow.

Was just there on Sunday, had a great time, couldn't imagine something like this . . . . people are going to be frustrtated.

That's what I was wondering...the attractions are all spaced out across the park. Maybe something in that underground command center that I know nothing about? Hopefully it's an easy fix.

I would think that over the next few years, as they continue expansion plans, things like this might happen a few more times. Not that this is necessarily related to new construction. But, when you start adding new rides and infrastructure to support them, there's going to be some interruptions, it's almost inevitable.

From Orlandosentinel.com - nothing we don't already know but it says to check back for updates:

Disney's Magic Kingdom experiences power problem - Some rides at the Magic Kingdom were 'impacted' a spokesman said.

11:01 a.m. EST, February 15, 2011

Some rides at Disney's Magic Kingdom were "impacted'' today after one of the theme park's air compressors lost power, a spokesman said.

The spokesman said all of the attractions are expected to up back up and running later this morning.

No other details were available. This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.

Wow... well at least no one was harmed...and none of the attractions were damaged by fire or anything like that....

WDW is a magical place.... but things happen beyond the control of anyone.... so hopefully everyone relaxes and tries out some of the other attractions that are still working... Or they could all go to Guest Relations and request the Original Tiki Room show return to WDW rather than the UNM version.... why not use this downtime for a good purpose! :)))) Twitter that idea anyone?

Best Wishes to those at the MK putting things back in order... hopefully the Guests respect the fact that Disney is doing the best that they can and give them a break, rather than screaming at the CMs.....

Now they're saying everything should be up and running around noon:

LAKE BUENA VISTA --
Walt Disney World has confirmed a power outage at part of the Magic Kingdom late Tuesday morning.
According to a Disney spokesman, an air compressor lost power, shutting down some attractions.
The spokesman did not immediately specify which attractions lost power, but said no guests were stranded on any rides.
Disney said the power should be back up and running again around noon.

Just curious....how do air compressors affect attractions?

Just curious...

Some of the anamatronics are run by them as well as gates, track switches, etc.....in short pretty much every attraction in the park uses compressed air in one way or another.

Glad I am not down there today. I am sure many a guests are mad.
Probably. Sitting at home reading about this I can be very understanding. These things happen occasionally. Mostly accidently. I can react to the news reasonably.

But if I was there. I would be so disappointed I don't know how I would react.:fork:

I agree. If one or 2 rides were impacted, it can be understandable. But I would be upset if most of the attractions in the park were down on a day I decided to visit. I would definitely expect some sort of compensation for my paid admission and loosing 1, 2, 3 hours of productivity in the day due to a parkwide failure like this.

I guess that makes sense....I guess I always assumed they were electric.

That must be one HUGE compressor they share.

Thanks,

Wally

I read somewhere that a spokesperson said the park is open and no refunds will be given. I can see if the rides were down for an hour - but this is a significant chunk of the day they are non operating - there are going to be people that will want (and rightly so) some sort of compensation - especially if they purchased a one day ticket.
