The Extra Magic Evening is really different when starting so early!! We too love those that start at Midnight and run into the wee small hours of the A.M........with that said, the lines were still extremely short just after 8:00......

I am a big fan of EMHA (Extra Magic Hours Afternoon). These occur from 2pm to 4pm and happen in parallel with the normal 2 to 4 so you get 4 hours in the span of two. ;)
Especially with the rib & chicken combo fit to be shared by 2....that might make the EMHA exponential?

On a related note.. There is only one Early Morning Magic event during all of April. This is very odd to me. I thought they were doing at least 2 per week. Haven't checked to see if there are more Morning Extra Magic Hours instead. Seems strange though. I thought EMM seemed to be doing very well.
Was the early morning magic event the same thing you and your son attended back in December? And you, if I remember correctly, had a very good experience. If we go a down again in December, I'm tempted to Do the MEMH upcharge and do the MVMCP that night.

Yes. It was worth every penny. I'm debating a quick bday stay in April and am very disappointed that it isn't offered. It seriously made our day...and was by far the best day of the trip. The Disney After Hours event looks like even more of a value..you don't need park admission so it's actually less expensive when you compare the 2. I'd do that one in a heartbeat if it was going on in April.
"Free" EMH is great, but riding 7DMT over and over without even leaving the queue was priceless. I definitely recommend it to anyone who is considering it. An hour seems like a little amount of time, but it really isn't. Not when there is only a very limited amount of people sharing the same space and attractions.

The After Hours was great too...we went in early "botched inception" only because we were given tickets by our resort, and then went again when the price dropped to $75 for AP holders. We are going to go again and haven't decided on a mid- February or March date.

It was unreal to be in the empty park....only bummer was it was so late....starting at 8:00/9:00 should make a huge difference!

I use night time EME (isn't it EMH?) to ride rides without big lines. I would care less if the whole world was standing on main street. Not really sure what you are after? You wanted a picture on main street with no people?
Weren't necessarily after anything....were seeking pics on Main Street to be taken by the Photopass peeps and assumed there would be little to no wait. Those photo lines and the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor is where the crowd was hanging out....so, again, we were "forced" to ride rides with no wait and had a blast doing so.

We will be attending one of the upcoming After Hours event, and will be able to get plenty of pics with no peeps....kinda spooky/creepy to have those pics in the empty park....

Is the park cleared on the up charge evening?
Check out this link: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/events-tours/magic-kingdom/disney-after-hours/

Cut directly from WDW Go link above; I highlighted in Red pertinent to clearing the Park:

Important Details for Disney After Hours

Learn all you need to know about Disney After Hours—including when you can check-in and enter the park.

  • Official check-in for the event will take place at the Main Entrance to the theme park beginning at 7:00 PM.
  • Please note that Magic Kingdom park will officially close to Guests who haven’t purchased Disney After Hours tickets at 8:00 PM on February 2, 9, 16; and at 9:00 PM on January 20, 27 and March 2, 9.
  • Walt Disney World Resort hotel Guests—including those staying at Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel and Walt Disney World Swan Hotel—may use Walt Disney World Transportation for up to 2 hours after the event. Guests with other accommodations are not guaranteed transportation and are encouraged to consult the transportation schedule at their place of lodging.
  • Please note that the number of tickets available is limited. In addition, all tickets are non-refundable, non-transferrable and are only valid for admission during the special event date and hours.
  • All attractions, entertainment and experiences are subject to change without notice.

I can tell you at last year's After Hours events (we attended two of them) the cast members REALLY impressed by removing guests that were not wearing the Lanyards...hopefully that will still be the case this year

This also doesn't help that a Certain Football event is taking place around this (Jan 29th 2017) Weekend and many things are happening at the resort due to this....

Yeah I was there this weekend and the combination on the Pro Bowl, Epcot's Festival of the Arts, and Universal's Harry Potter Weekend made WDW's Magic Kingdom a little crazy for late January

We just returned from the World, and noticed a few results of the reduced operating schedule/hours.

Wednesday night MK closed at 8:00 P.M. with EME from 8:00-10:00. Knowing this, we spent most of the day at Epcot, and then headed to MK after dinner. Shortly before 8:00 we rode Space Mountain, and then headed to Buzz. There was no one in line, so we rode it twice. By 8:15ish we headed to Main Street thinking we would be able to get some great photos....WRONG! Main Street was packed, so figuring the Wishes/Fireworks crowds would thin in time, we headed in to Adventureland, rode PoC and the Jungle Cruise (with zero line in either).

Back to Main Street by just before 9:00 and it was still packed...like can't even go buy our Plaza Ice Cream Sundae!!

We ended up riding Pooh, Peter Pan, Haunted Mansion, and then PoC again before heading back to Main Street. By that time, now almost 10:00, the line at Plaza Ice Cream was actually inside vs. wrapped out the door, so we got our cherished Sundae!

Let me point out cast members WERE scanning bands for anyone trying to ride rides, and the wait to ride rides was 15 mins or less (didn't care to ride Seven Dwarfs), so we were able to enjoy the main reason most go to the parks!!

We went to the EME for photos, not to ride rides....and were surprised so many peeps stayed knowing they wouldn't be able to board any attractions.

Main point here is to be aware just because the parks close early doesn't mean the crowds will leave. 8:00 - 10:00 EME this week was a great time to ride rides, but the Main Street was still crowded!!
