MJ's Mayflowers

Could you guys go check Kat's TR and see if the pics are coming up for you? It might just be my computer.

I can see them,

No offense to the mommies of special needs kids, but sometimes I just have no tolerance for them :lookaroun

Ok I'm kidding  I have tolerance for those that are genuinely trying. But those that are maybe of a lower IQ or something and are plain jerks, I don't have tolerance for them.

Case and point: I'm subbing for an ESE teacher and one kid in particular is being a jerk. Won't do the work for me and won't stay in his seat. When I try and get him in his seat, he looks at me and laughs and comes up with some smart-alleck line.

Another little girl did her work and is very sweet. Her I like. But again, regardless of who you are, if you are a jerk or have an attitude with me, I don't have the patience for it.

I am very, very proud of how many people tell me that MJ is one of the hindest, most polite SNK that they have ever met.

Reg I know exactly what you mean. I've seen special needs kids who were just delightful, and some who clearly have been allowed to rule the roost just because of their situations. Parents aren't doing those kids any favor by not enforcing a little discipline, however difficult it may be.

I completely agree with that.
Special Needs shouldn't mean discipline free! All kids need limits.

You are very right! Thank you.

Maybe it's a good thing Special Needs is not your field of choice.
It's a whole different ballgame.

No it's not my field of choice. However, with inclusion being implemented everywhere, I have to deal with ESE kids whether I like it or not. And I don't mind it really. Actually I can deal with it. But you forget I am in a middle school. Bad enough dealing with "regular" kids with attitude. Now I have to deal with kids who have been coddled all their lives and have been allowed to get away with murder basically. To me that's not cool. And the kids with attitude understand perfectly what they're doing. They just want to be smart with me because I'm a substitute.

To clarify a little, I only have maybe 2 or three truly exceptional students in this class that can be classified as such. But my thinking is the rest of them have slightly below-than-average IQ's OR reading/math levels. As far as emotional handicaps or something like that, it's just not there.

Believe it or not, I am a very patient person with these kids, and I still do a good job that the teachers all love me for it and thank me personally when they see me.

Bonny! I wish I would have been able to meet up with you last week! As you will be able to read in my TR - taking the trip with 8 people was rather hectic...

I'm so sorry I missed you!

I get you, Reg.
Kids are labeled too easily these days and the real issues are often not dealt with at all. It seems that a lot of parents are happy to get that label so they can use it as an excuse for their child's bad behavior. That transfers all the classroom responsibilities to the teacher. The child does not have to account for behavior. . .he is now "special".

What kind of job was it? (I am so out of the loop)
Well... I think the title the church has decided on is "Connecting Pastor" He'll be dealing a lot with the organization of small groups, sunday school, assimilation, ministries, etc. He is SO excited!

and so... I'm going to be a pastor's wife... :lookaroun
