My 25th wedding anniversary is in August and we've decided to cruise to Hawaii with another couple celebrating an anniversary. YAY!!!

The other couple REALLY wants to combine it with a stay in San Francisco, so we're not sailing DCL. BOOOOOOOOOO! :(

It'll be our first Princess cruise. I guess it'll be great, but it won't be like going home.

Congratulations, Chuck!

Too sad that you're not going home, but you know it will still be awesome. :)

I cruised Princess a long time ago and I am sure you will have a great time. Princess is just a little fancier then a DCL or Carnival cruise. Just enjoy and know Disney is waiting for you. ;)

I've actually been eyeballing Princess because they're going to be sailing out of Houston/Bayport which is maybe 10 minutes from us. It's a gorgeous cruise terminal. Built in '08 and only ever had 1 cruise ship port there. Also, over the weekend we saw the Crown Princess at the terminal in Galveston. Pretty impressive ship to behold. You'll have a fab time. I want to hear all about it! And happy anniversary!

Our traveling partners asked for 6 pm dining. It looks like they keep you in the same dining room every night. Are you saying that if we go with the "anytime" dining, we can choose among the 3 main dining rooms? If so, is there a downside to the "anytime" dining?

Like Carnival and other cruise lines you are stuck to one dining room. I believe even with anytime dining you are stuck to the one dining room that has anytime dining. Plus be advised that with anytime dining you can be sat anywhere and there may be a wait.

They are finally going to open and use that? Cool!!

Yep! Caribbean Princess starting next fall. If we're coming home via 146 around 4:30-5:30 we cut down the port road & along the water to avoid the traffic delays in Seabrook. Drive by that giant glass terminal all the time. Dying to see inside!

Our first cruise in 2004 was out of the old terminal there. Also an hour closer than Galveston.

Ah, @ChuckElias , I feel ya, buddy. Just before I left to go on the girls cruise a few weeks ago we had to make the final decision on the Allure for Thanksgiving with the inlaws. Our PIF date would land while I was on Castaway Cay with the girls. Every one of us in my family don't really want to sail on that ship. We're truly unimpressed with all the whiz-bang flashy-flash of such a massive ship. Just doesn't "do it" for us. Both the boys had been asking over and over to cancel and find something on a Disney ship instead. Or just stay home. :jawdrop: I know I yammered the girls' ears off about it on the cruise. LOL! In the end, even tho it wasn't the smartest thing to do financially either, we paid it and went for it. Mostly it's about my inlaws. With Tracey's dad's 2nd round with cancer earlier this year we're scared to death we'll get down the road and not have the opportunity to travel with them again. We'd regret not taking this opportunity. So, we're trying to buck-up and find things to be excited about. I keep telling the boys if nothing else they need to make this time about the opportunity with Mimi & Poppa. I'd do anything to go back and not pass up opportunities I had to travel with my grandparents. Seriously. I'm also really looking forward to seeing what other cruise lines do. What are the differences? I'm especially excited to see what dinner options there are outside the MDR & upcharge joints. Do other cruise lines offer more or better options??? That's something I found sorta lacking on our recent Fantasy cruise. It's little things like that I'm looking forward to. I guess try to focus on the things that interest you about the trip and find the positives. Plus, you're going to HAWAII! And San Francisco! You're going to have your dearest to yourself without all the life junk getting in the way! That in itself is AWESOME!!!

@sweetpee_1993 IMHO you should go on Allure with an open mind. I know that feeling on coming off of a Disney cruise and wanting your next cruise to be ONLY on a Disney ship. Disney really does feel like home. But with that said all cruise ships really have more things in common than things that are different. I may get thrown off this forum for saying it :) but I actually found Allure of the Seas to be a touch magical. There I said it. There really is an attention to detail and a backstory to a lot of the design on the ship that goes unnoticed. The mosaic in the center on Central Park that is reminiscent of the mosaic for John Lennon in the real Central Park, the area on the Royal Promenade that is inspired by the intersection of Prince and Dean Streets in NYC. Those are only two out of the many things that people never even noticed. I saw Chicago on Broadway a few weeks ago and honestly the version on Allure was better. Blue Planet is another amazing show as is Oceanaria. As far as dining options there are so many to choose from but I never felt forced to eat in them because the food quality in the MDR was really good. What I like about the ship is that you can try to do it all or just simply relax and take it easy. again go with an open mind, Enjoy the quality times with poppa, and remember that its not Disney but don't let that stop you from having an amazing time.

Sure you'll have a great time anyway. Plus they say "absence makes the heart grow fonder" so when you take the next DC you be that much more excited.
