Mission: SPACE Test and Adjust

I did a brief search for this, but couldn't find much. When Mission: SPACE was first open (during the Test and Adjust period) how much did the attraction differ? It seems to be the belief that the g-forces/spinning of the ride had been toned down, but to the video itself change at all? Was it perhaps shortened?

Backstage tour.... useless rumor told me they slowed it down because too many people lost their lunch, "Code V". Like I said pretty slim info I am not sure how much I trust a Guest Relations CM.

I rode it when it opened and continue to ride it now. If it was toned or slowed down, I never noticed the difference. And the film hasn't changed at all.

They stopped spinning for "Green" and as far as I can tell, left "Orange" as it was originally.

The only changes were the new videos for Orange and Green, in effect minor edit tweaks and vocal changes, ramming home the differences and the fact Orange is more intense.

Didn't they not used to tell you you were spinning? I thought they added that part to the vids a couple of weeks or months later maybe. And I think during the soft opening back in July 2003, the lady didnt say the, "Now listen carefully, leaning forward, closing your eyes, or looking left and right during your flight could disorient you. So keep your head back against the headrest, keep you eyes open at all times, and focus straight ahead, even if you start to feel disoriented." I think that line was added shortly after it opened, but I could be wrong.

I was one of the first people to get on when they opened it for the first soft opening. It was very intense, but iirc, no more than the Orange line is now, and if it was more intense, then not by much.

I think that was added to the Orange pre-show after Green was created, as part of that refurb.

I could have sworn that the lady didnt say that until shortly after the official opening back in 2003. We went in December of 2003 too and I think thats when she said it, but Idk.:shrug:

I was also there that day. Was in the second or third group let into the pre-show room (I seem to recall only one or two ride chambers were up and running at that point). Apart from a couple changes to the pre-show video to emphasize the spinning and how not to become disoriented that were already mentioned, the ride itself (at least the going by the current Orange Team version) hasn't changed at all, as far as I can tell.

I really lucked out that day (June 9th, 2003 according to the date info on my pics). It was my departure day, and I had to head to the airport immediately afterward to catch my flight home. I nervously kept an eye on my watch and kept trying to figure out when the absolute latest was that I could head to the airport. Even went through my digital camera deleting un-necessary photos so that I had memory space to snap a bunch of pics and a coupel video clips. :)

I have a pic or two of the crowd, Jeff. I should post it and see if you see yourself. :)

That would be really cool if I was in the background. I remember the CM telling us the day before that it would be Soft Open for the first time at around 1pm the next day. If I remember, it was actually open not long after the park opened, so we were glad we got there early. I just can't remember exactly what time that was. With I had taken pics with a date on them, and this was before I had ever bought a digital camera.

The G Forces were never altered, other than the introduction of the green side. They spent years working out the tolerances of the G's for guests, and despite common internet myth, it was never toned down.

I didn't think so, but was not 100% on it. Thanks!

Ok, so the G-Forces were never altered, and the video was never altered.

I guess my friend was mistaken - as he was insistent that the ride wasn't over when the barrier breaks below you.

Thanks everyone.

The snow breaking out from under you, a tip forward [Sinese says "Don't move a muscle"] then you tip back upright and he congratulates you on a successful mission. That's always been the ending.

I'll put them online when I get home tonight.

Hmmm... The day that I rode it, it didn't open until about 4PM. I'd gotten there fairly close to opening, as there had been some rumors of it opening for previews that day. I checked on it about every hour throughout the morning into the afternoon, and at one point overheard a few people talking nearby, that seemed to be some off-duty manager-level CM, his wife and a friend, and they said they were aiming for 3 or 4PM.

When we were eventually let in, there were a bunch of people from WDI standing there at the entrance just inside the red planet (but no big-name people I recognized).

EDIT:
Turns out I'd already put the photos on Photobucket. I don't want to re-size them to display on the page here, so I'll just link to the ful--size versions:
The crowd starts to gather:

We get to enter (note the people from WDI to the right):

And one thing that *has* changed, the manual release handles for the tipping cabin walls in the pods now have solid covers over them, but back during the preview the handles were just taped down :):

Maybe I'm wrong, but I remember the warnings about spinning and keeping your head back and eyes straight ahead from the very beginning. I'm almost 99% sure nothing has changed video-wise on the orange side anyway.

And the ride (on the orange side) has never changed either. I am CERTAIN of that.

That is strange. Were you there for the actual opening, or a soft opening? We rode it, Rode test track, then ate lunch.
