Does anyone think or know if Mission:Space will be open, or have a soft opening by June of this year? I'm just curious, because I'm going in June.

There are no opening dates at this time. Anything you read/hear is speculation right now.

The current speculation is that the earliest it may open is late July 2003.

we are going in September and are HOPEING that it will be open by then! Of course we went once assuming that Test Track would be open, since it was in the guide books and everything....
I really hope it does not have all the delays that happened with that!:)

This might be a dumb thing to say but if you haven't heard the Space Shuttle Columbia apparently exploded during the beginning stage of its landing this morning.

Does anyone think that Disney might take this and possibly delay the opening of Mission Space seeing its so close to Cape Canaveral where Columbia was headed.

Its seems weird to link the two but it might be something Disney might have to look into too unfortunately.

It's confirmed by NASA
and I've seen it on CNN (horrible)

Another 7 good people lost...

The space shuttle Columbia, carrying a crew of seven, broke up Saturday morning 200,000 feet above Texas. More soon

The opening of Mission Space would certainly have been delayed if there were not already problems. The media is going to (unfairly) crucify anyone who glorifies the space program for the next several months.

It's possible, Universal delayed Twister when the Hurricane hit so close to home, but it is still a good half year away, so I don't think it will affect the ride.

I would not really blame the media so much.... I mean... think about it ...does Disney/NASA want to really push this ride if all shuttle operations are grounded/halted and a massive investigation is under way.. al la Challenger 1986?

They (Disney) could hold back... as a PR move.

Do you think it's possible that Disney might dedicate the attraction to the Columbia crew? I think if they put up a nice plaque near the entrance where everyone could see, that would be fitting.
