Mission: Space - Heart Rate Monitor Built Into Ride?

I was reading through the public Facebook posts about the Sky Tower at Sea World getting stuck and ran across the following one where someone said they shut down Mission: Space because the built-in heart rate monitor on the joystick of the ride detected an abnormally high heart rate from himself. I had never heard about this before (and am skeptical it exists), so I searched around to find nothing. Of course, my next option was to post here!

What says the forum? Real or BS?

I thought about blurring out the guy's name, but he works for a TV station and posted it publicly, so I figured it wasn't necessary.

Yeah, right. While running on the treadmill at my gym, my heart rate in peak zone usually exceeds 155. No one has ever wandered over to the treadmill I'm on and tells me to stop. And I think a heart rate from running 5 mph for 20 minutes is more if an issue than someone nervous about the ride. Total and utter horse hockey. There are no HR monitors in those joy sticks. If his story is factual, more likely a CM noticed on a monitor how nervous/scared he looked. They have 2 levels for a reason.... I've never had a problem with Orange. And I suffer from occasional migraines.

Noticed the picture in his FB post is for a ride in another park. If you're going to do a Brian Williams, at least use a picture from the correct park. Sheesh.

Not for a second. There are, however, two deaths associated with this ride. They died after riding, not while on the attraction. I found this out before riding the first time in 2007. The stern warnings by Gary Sinise didn't help matters, and I think I had a mild anxiety attack while riding, lol.

you would have to have medically trained personnel to monitor every riders heart rate. The cost would be huge and the liability even greater if you screwed up.
