Mission Space: Green worth the trouble?

Just don’t turn your head to the side while the ride is starting up, or else you’ll be able to feel the actual spinning the entire time. THEN you’ll throw up.

The last time I was in WDW was right when M:S opened and the line was so long that I just wasn't going to brave it. I'm finally heading back down next month and have been considering going ahead and giving it a shot. With that said, my formerly-iron stomach has gone away in the past twelve years (not the stomach, that keeps getting larger) so I'll likely have to do M:S Green if I do it at all.

Should I even bother? Is the spinning of the Orange side so important to the experience of riding the attraction that the Green side ends up being essentially shoved into a tiny closet while you watch a movie? I haven't really heard people talk about it, other than to state the obvious that it doesn't spin.

Conversely, is Orange so bad that I would regret my life choices if I just sucked it up and gave it a try? My tendency for nausea isn't so bad that I can't take the occasional ride on a Round-Up, though it would definitely be limited to a single time as opposed to during my younger days when I was known to ride "spinny rides" multiple times with very few ill effects.

I am prone to nausea and so generally avoid rides that spin (I haven’t done the teacups in years). But M:S seemed worth making an exception for. I tried the green version first and found it perfectly tolerable, so then I went for orange. Yes, it left me feeling rather queasy, but the experience was worth it. I would compare the feeling to what one might experience after riding ToT. Of course, this is my opinion only, and your reaction may end up being very different. I would nevertheless give it a try, perhaps starting with green to see how you fare. Good luck!

How one tolerates green has nothing to do with how they might tolerate orange. It is a completely different experience physically.

Both are fun. I have extreme motion sick isssues (can’t even get in a car without meds) but love orange. If you dare just listen to the instructions to keep your head back and looking forward. Also don’t think about the spinning so you trick your body into the going forward motion helps. To me I think the worst part is launch the rest is just fun G-forces. Either way you go I think worth trying one or both. Especially since you haven’t done it before.

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
Green was insanely boring. But I'm also a guy in his mid-20s with no motion sickness problems and a passion for thrills.

Everyone has given me exactly the kind of advice and info I needed. Thank you all so much! I think I'm going to just see how I feel on that day. Honestly, I would probably be okay on Orange and I'd rather have the "full experience." If I'm just not feeling it that day, though, it sounds like Green would be okay. Having never experienced either, I'd just like to at least do one of them so that I can say that I've ridden it. Maybe they should sell t-shirts that say, "I rode Mission Space: Orange and didn't toss my churros!"

Never worked up the nerve to go on Mission Space. Can’t do rides like the Teacups that just spin. For years, simulator rides like Star Tours or Body Wars would leave me queasy for hours. I’m refent years taking a Bonine each morning before hitting the parks has solved my issue with simulators.

If you’re used to orange, green is nice for something different.

If you’re not, green is still worth a look.
Basically this. That landing sequence is the best part by far. The re-entry, the rain, and chase plane all make it feel like a big deal instead of the over cheesified orange version. I'd honestly take a version of green with some of the Soarin' stuff cut out in exchange for a longer landing.
Body Wars made me nauseous back in the day, but Star Tours didn't, for some reason. I can handle the Gravitron, but I'd rather not be pukey for the rest of the day. Maybe I'll just go with Green and not worry. Tough choices, these. lol
Body Wars was programmed to be in fluid versus Star Tours which was programmed to be in space. BW was always rocking, like a boat in a lake. ST is direct with its movement because...space. And your case was the same for many people.

Just reading this makes me wonder why the people of disney chose this ride system over the original dark ride plan. Just sounds awful!

Because there should be some rides on property that are thrilling. There are other parks with much more thrilling rides and Disney need to keep pace to offer attractions for those guests who enjoy them. Those guests who get motion sickness, have the less intense version available to them. I think MS got a bad rap from the media in the beginning and it continues to have people think the worst about it.

Myself and my 11 year old daughter love the Orange version. My wife did it once and said never again. I even turn my head and look around, but I have a cast iron stomach. It's pretty intense, for sure.

I guess I'll just gauge my general well-being when I'm there and see what happens. If I go on Orange and I spew, at least I'll have a story to tell.
I pray we are not in the same cabin together if we do coincidentally ride MS on the same day

I went on the Orange one yesterday. Not my cup of tea. I love thrill rides, but it reminds me too much of a carnival-type Gravitron ride. I haven't had my head spin like that in a while.

I'm not one to back down from an intense thrill ride and I'm not sure I'll do orange again. Although my son loved and wants to do it again. I got really close to blacking out a couple of times. I will say I'm still glad I did it ... once. :)

Have a fun time!
