well, then, there IS a reason to turn it off. so stop saying there is no reason! stupid talking heads!
They have a lot of air time to fill and a lot of it ends up being filled by misinformation and conjecture from semi-informed "experts." Any time CNN and the CNN-wannabees cover a "breaking story" a lot of what you hear turns out a day or two later to have been wrong or seriously misleading.

OK, CNN has gotten really stupid now. They are showing a countdown clock labeled "Data Recorder Battery Life". First the battery is for the locator beacon not the box themselves which stores the data using non-volatile technology. Second, even though the locator battery is designed to last 30 days it's not something that can be measured to the second. They batteries are required to last 30 days but could last longer, and it's not something that is going to turn off at exactly the 30 day mark.

CNN is the network that asked guests whether a Supernatural force or a black hole could be the cause. It's like they were secretly taken over by The Onion at this point.
