Missing Malaysia Flight 370

Hopefully it wasn't hijacked to be used as a weapon later. There has been some speculation of that, and even though I find it more paranoia than probable, you never know in this day & age.

I fear this is what happened.

I never watch the news (although I do listen to it on the radio on my commute to/from work to be informed) but I have been watching CNN nonstop since this happened.

Apparently they are analyzing the flight simulator records from the pilot's home to try to retrieve the files that were deleted last month.

Someone mentioned on the news this morning that the ONLY methods for a flight to communicate with air traffic control is in the cockpit. There is no way to radio from outside the cockpit. So if the pilot/copilot or any combination of the two were redirecting the flight, the flight attendants (if they were not involved) would have no way of communicating to the ground. Apparently this is another thing that has been discussed since 9/11 but has not been implemented due to cost.

Those poor families - I don't know how they find strength.

A pilot by the name of Chris Goodfellow seems to have the most rational explanation.

This does sound very logical (certainly a lot more than many of the talking heads on news stations). But it still does not explain why not even minor evidence of wreckage thus far. And one minor error in this author's theory:

"A hijack would not have made that deliberate left turn with a direct heading for Langkawi. It would probably have weaved around a bit until the hijackers decided on where they were taking it."

Experienced hijackers would know exactly where they were taking it long before the hijack itself ever took place. Not trying to throw more paranoia into this story. But that article does point out a lot more rationalities than many news broadcasts for sure.

This information comes second hand from the Rooster Teeth podcast (no way I am typing Taliban into google) but the Taliban apparently came out with a response akin to "We wish we could have stolen that jet and made it looked like it disappeared."

I am not all that shocked that nothing has been found yet. The ocean is an almost unimaginably vast place. A needle in a haystack does not even begin to cover it.

Except they are now reporting that the flight path had already been altered before the "goodnight" transmission.

(Although I am sure that report can change by tomorrow)

And that after the search of the home some items have been deleted that they are "in theory" trying to recover. If they do recover that information I'll be curious to see what a pilot would find necessary to delete prior to that flight.

From a logical pilots point of view I can see how this pilot is going in the direction he is, it would make sense if there was not so many other weird twists and turns in this event already. The Malaysia Government wanting no outside help from Interpol or the FBI or anyone else from that matter, short of sharing information with those countries with missing passengers and their own people....my gut is there is more to this event than a good pilot looking for the nearest airport solely because of aircraft issues not that is isn't a reasonable theory.

Maybe everyone is looking in the wrong place....Everyone assumes the plane went down and crashed somewhere...What if the plane went into SPACE!! That is why you cant find any wreckage cause its all floating in space...Case Solved

?? The agencies (FBI, NTSB, US Navy, and more) are all involved and working with their government.

True, that is what Malaysia's knee jerk reaction to the not so veiled criticism from other countries involved.

"
U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel raised the issue of transparency when he spoke with his Malaysian counterpart Monday, according to two U.S. officials.

Both officials said it was not a criticism of the Malaysians, but more a discussion about the need to share information with the world on one of the most complex search operations in history.

"He was saying the best way to handle this is to continue to be transparent and tell what you know when you know it," one official said of Hagel's conversation. In the first days after the incident, some U.S. officials had said the Malaysian government did not share enough radar and technical data about the flight."

"Malaysian officials have defended their handling of the crisis, stressing that the situation is unprecedented."

"The Malaysian government's handling of the disappearance of Malaysia Airline (OTCMKTS:MLYAF) Flight MH370, which went missing on March 8, has been criticized by many, including China, who have demanded that it be more transparent in managing the search operations, which entered its sixth day Thursday."

For the sake of the families waiting, I hope there is some resolve soon. Couldn't even begin to imagine what it's like for them. That sweet Mother in the "Where's My Son"? clip was heartbreaking to watch. Local governments need to be more compassionate to these families.

An interesting thing came up early on that I had never thought of. Why don't we have flight data recorders that send data back in real time? The aviation expert that was being interviewed said that this is something that has been discussed, but it's a question of who will pay for it. Not just the cost of the new recorders, but the cost of receiving and storing he data. I wonder if this incident will push the issue on this.

on the why do we do things the way we do them concept............

if everyone says that there would never be a reason to turn of the transponder, why is there an off button?

just saying...........

They have an off switch in case there is a short or problem in the transponder it's self that could cause a fire. Granted it's not likely to happen.
