Miscellaneous Tokyo Thoughts

Japanese Twitter users have been saying that the whole Story Beyond seems to be poorly translated from English to Japanese, which has lead to some confusion. There was some minor controversy over the ballroom dancer character, Harland, as their romantic interest was described with masculine pronouns: "Harland was leaving America love him". Is Harland supposed to be gay? Was this a translation error? I'm not a native speaker so I can't really say.
According to this Tumblr post, Harland the Male Ballroom Dancer is gay and had a male partner.

Hello friends. I'm kind of shell-shocked writing this but work is sending me on a trip and I'll have a weekend layover in Tokyo from Feb. 17-19 so might actually swing a day in Tokyo Disneysea! I've never been to either park (or Japan for that matter) but figure I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. Very excited to see something so many people have ranked as their favorite park on the planet, and recommendations are welcome and appreciated. Cheers!

Skip Midway Mania because it’s the exact same as stateside. Soaring is also the same ride experience although the queue and pre-show are unique and great.

Much obliged! Any concerns with purchasing a ticket same-day at the entrance? I am planning on a Saturday (2/18)
Unfortunately buying tickets at TDR is a big hassle. Tickets are basically only sold online in advance, there are no tickets sold on-site whatsoever except for those who booked hotel packages.

Klook will probably be your easiest way of buying tickets because the official TDR site does not play well with foreign credit cards and is terribly designed all around. I would recommend trying to buy your ticket as soon as possible since you have a narrow window to visit and it's rapidly approaching.

I have a foreign debit card and I want to get premier pass but not sure if my card will work when I'm there in May. I heard you can go and buy the premier pass in the park though

I've heard that foreign cards work okay with the app, it's really just the ticketing which for some reason is highly resistant to foreign cards. Foreign cards also work perfectly fine inside the park at shops etc.

Apparently foreign cards finally work??? At least that is what I heard from a site that is not to be named.
One of my foreign cards works again, one doesn’t. But the ticket finally displays on the app even though it was bought on a foreign card.

Ummm.... so interestingly what's happening right now is that DisneySea Seasonal shows(barges) have now been all demolished. While in Disneyland Christmas stories and Halloween parade is still living.

They could literally just have done 1 regular show that works all year long instead of no entertainment at all during off season or mid transitional season for special events.

all they need is a sponsor.

No wonder we only have a 40th Greeting in TDS Coming up..........

As soon as the COVID rules are over.....TDR needs to get their Act Together!!!!!! Never dreamed that TDR would be this far behind the US Parks in recovery! Of Course, if COVID was much longer in Japan, Totally understandable.

What do you mean? Are you saying you DON’T want to wait an hour to wave at Mickey on the same blue barge as he circles the harbor for 10 minutes in a costume from four years ago?? B..but I thought OLC was the greatest company ever!?!?!

(obligatory this is sarcasm note)

[Breaking] Japanese Government has announced that starting march 13th facemask will be voluntary.
All the dominos are starting to fall. I imagine OLC is going to need the theme park association (the name escapes me) to change their recommendation in order to make any official changes.

Oddly enough in my experience theme parks have been the strictest places on masks in the entire country. Last time I went to USJ and TDR in 2022 I was constantly being scolded to put a mask on the second I would walk under any covered-roof area. At USJ I was even told twice to put a mask on outside when I wasn't around anybody else. At Fuji-Q last summer I was refused boarding on the outdoor river raft ride until I put a mask on. Thank god this insanity appears to be ending soon.

I’d put my entire fortune (which isn’t much tbf) that TDR changes absolutely nothing. I’d bet most of this country doesn’t change because it’ll be a constant game of chicken and nobody wants to go first. Being without a mask is seen as unforgivably rude, kids are growing up thinking that they should never show their faces to other people. I saw a tweet today about the rule change for possibly allowing this year’s crop of students to graduate without masks replying “I see my friends’ faces on LINE and video chat, I don’t need to see it in person.”

Basically we’re stuck with them forever. I give it a year Barr minimum before we’re allowed to take our masks off indoors at TDR, if ever. I really hope I’m wrong but I fear that I’m not.
the old one is already tired and cant be maintained properly anymore so they had to built a new one with same design for greeting and ceremony .
I still think it’s a tragedy that they retired the old greeting barge that looked like a wave. Last time we saw it was for the 35th, it looked so cool compared to the current, rather blah one.
