Miscellaneous Tokyo Thoughts

I have to say that looking at the website, TDL has more going on than I expected. Not perfect, but it looks like they're actively working to bring back entertainment to something resembling what it used to be.

TDS sure has a lot of empty theaters at the moment, though. I hope that there are plans to get more entertainment back in the park to coincide with Fantasy Springs' opening.

I've only been to the park this year - what else is missing? I gather that there used to be a show in the Mermaid area and that Big Band Beat had an actual band instead of a recording. What else?

Speaking as someone who hasn't been in five years, there are typically shows, in addition to Mermaid, Magic Lamp, and their nighttime show:
1. A show in front of the ship (This was a New York show in 2019)
2. A show in the Hangar theater in Lost River Delta
3. SEVERAL seasonal shows for Halloween/Christmas/etc
4. A daytime show in the Harbor (RIP Mythica-clearly they don't have the interest in replacing this as there hasn't been a regular, non-seasonal show in almost a decade)

Thanks. I found this website that lists a bunch of the entertainment they used to have. It sounds really nice and I hope it comes back!

As has been said by many, many people over the years, Tokyo, as a park that is not owned or operated by TWDC in any capacity, is not under ANY obligation to make any updates to attractions unless they themselves wish to make those changes. TWDC can ask nicely, but they cannot MAKE the Oriental Land Company do anything as long as they're upholding the standards set out by the terms of the agreement they have with Disney. There has been no evidence that OLC has any immediate desire to update the Pirates auction scene or any other part of the attraction. Could they? Sure. Are they obligated to if they don't think it's worth the time/expense/money involved? No.

Hello
Going back to TDR for the first time since 2016
My wife and I are doing a pleasure trip to Japan
My other trips were business so I have only been on the weekend

So many questions- all answers and advice are appreciated

1) going to buy tickets using the app - any concern with this approach?
2) what is the fast pass/ lightning lane setup ? Just go through the app ? - what is recommended for a Tuesday DL day and a Wednesday DS day in terms of purchasing passes?

3) staying at Sheraton grand Tokyo bay on the monorail - do I need to buy a pass for the monorail? Any advice onthe hotel - asking for a particular floor or view ?

Thank you in advance

Not a local by any stretch, but:
1. Historically, buying TDR tickets in the US has been, at best, very difficult. I'm not sure if this has changed with the app or not, but buying through TDR directly over the internet has always had a number of weird, strict rules that don't exist when buying in person in Japan.
2. The newest attractions are upcharge a la Individual Lightning Lane, but they have brought back, to my understanding, a free system that's reminiscent of FP for most other attractions (don't remember its name off the top of my head, but it's neither FP nor LL or Genie). I believe everything is done through the app.
3. Yes, you will need to buy a pass for the monorail.

Tokyo Disney Resort is rumored to participate in this years special yearend Music show NHK kohaku Utagasen.

But theres a twist this year, In recent weeks it has been determined that Johnnys entertainment was scheduled to make a collab with TDR for its 40th anniversary medley, Like they did last year with MISIA and Tokyo DisneySea.

But recently Johnnys Entertainment creator has been accused of that scandal(Just google it, I dont want to be banned from this forum if i said those words).

Back to the topic, News outlets are now making headlines that TDR and Johnny's collab for this years Kohaku utagasen might not be happening.

Reason is with these type of scandal.
The Walt disney Company might be the one to say NO for the collab and TDR might adjust the artist lineup proposed medley for the show. That will be taped in the coming weeks at park closing.

Just a really beautiful walkthrough of Tokyo DisneySea from two months ago. The sky is blue in this one (usually it's overcast in the walkthroughs).

I was wondering about people's thoughts about the English support at TDR. I feel like it's difficult for me to give advice because I understand Japanese, so I didn't have issues. But I can't help to feel that certain things would be extremely difficult or near impossible to explain to cast members/workers without Japanese. I've heard that even guest relations may not even have the best support, nor do the Disney Hotels. People say apparently the Hilton/Sheraton tend to have better support? Not really sure, but from an international guest standpoint it would make a lot of sense.

Since Japan was closed for so long, many of my Japanese friends who work in hospitality and speak English told me that they had not spoken English for such a long time, and it has been difficult adjusting back.

I was fine in 2010 and 2019. I did lose an external charger in 2019, and I was able to converse with a Guest Relations cast member in English and through Google Translate with a different cast member. Turns out, I had left it at the Sheraton, and they were able to help me out without issue.

Both the Sheraton and the Hilton had English-speaking staff available, which was helpful.

I didn't perceive there to be any big difficulties, at least at the time. And on average there was more English knowledge in Tokyo at that time vs, say, Shanghai.
