Miracle

I don't know if anyone else went to see MIRACLE this past weekend, but I had the priveledge to do so.
To tell the truth I was a bit afraid of what I might see. I was praying that the greatest upset in the history of sports ( and arguably one of the greatest moments in our nations history ) would not be taken and turned into a quasi- "Mighty Ducks IV". But alas, my fears were thankfully unfounded. The movie was great. Every aspect of the movie was tastefully and artistically done. Kurt Russell gave, in my opinion, one of the best performances of his career and the rest of the characters were superbly casted. My only complaint was that I thought it concentrated too much on Herb Brooks ( Russell ). I would like to have seen more story on the players. But overall, it was one of the best I've seen in a while. I even found myself cheering as Al Michaels begged the question " Do you believe in miracles?!?!? YES!! " Four stars. A masterpiece of a movie.

Havn't seen it yet but looking forward to it. Question, is it a little too mature for a kid to see. Not sure what it is rated.

I believe its rated PG or PG-13, but no its fine for a little kid to see. there no gratuitous profanity or anything like that. If you would allow your kid to watch a hockey game then they can watch the movie.

im glad you liked it. im excited about going to see it. i can barely remember watching that hockey match with my dad. I was 4 years old. i just remember him telling me that it was the biggest sporting event he had witnessed since the "Goal line Stand" Alabama vs. Penn State. granted the football game didnt have the importance of a National and Global impact but still, great game (we are alabama fans).

The sad thing is, my wife, born in 79, didnt even know about the story. i flipped out. i told her all about it and she is excited about the movie as well. forgive her, she is not the sports fanatic like we are.

I saw it on sneak-preview weekend. I really liked it. A good "feel-good" movie that was tastefully done. Although, these types of movies from Disney have been great. (The Rookie, Remember the Titans, and now Miracle)

Sorry to have to correct you, BG Rugger, but Kurt Russel's best performance was 'Big Trouble in Little China'. Am I right or am I right?

Jack Burton and the Pork Chop Express, man what a movie............ I think the thing that scared me for life as a kid with that movie was when the chinese guy, filled his head full of air to make it explode. pretty tramatising.

USA USA USA USA USA

Me too, and did you hear that the USA lost to Mexico , In Mexico for Olympic qualifications and when the team lost the crowd in the stadium started chanting "Osama".

how classless, especially to a country that is so helped by the USA. What sad is, we're beaten up so much as a country somteimes (dont go into political debate please) that Mexico even slams on us yet, if someone were to attack them tomorrow, guess who'd be there in uniform putting their life on the line? Americans.

 Spoken like a true Alabama fan. I have a good friend here in Huntsville who swears by that game and the 1992 Sugar Bowl win over Miami which he has on tape and still watches. Yes, those were great sporting events for our neck of the woods, but outside Dixie, very few people remember.

ROLL TIDE!

Didn't hear about theMexcio thing. That's a real shame. The guy at the top is always shot at by those below. The way I see this foreign country hating America thing, it is the fault of the governments. Of ten to mask their own deficiences and issues they use teh USA as a whipping boy to rally their people. Frustrating, since some of those countires wouldn't even be around or have free societies without the old U S of A.

Why can't we all just get along? I know - ain't gonna happen.

Even my wife, who has no interest in Hockey, watched the game. Seeing our young college kids beat the seasoned professionals of the Soviet Union brought a tear to my eye. How proud I was of those kids and the US.

What is lost when discussing the "Miracle on Ice" of February 16, 1980, is that this game was only the semi-final game, it was NOT for the gold medal. The US had to play Finland two days later for the gold and in that game, the US kids had to overcome a 2-1 deficit to win, another heart-stopper.

Very true, Tramp. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I hope this is properly portrayed in the film.

Since I was 4 years old at the time of the game, i thought it was for the gold medal, since everybody was getting all excited, but my dad informed me differently. over the years that kind of slipped my mind until a few weeks ago they were talking about it on a local sports talk, wjox 690 in bham, and it triggered my memory. talk about an emotional let down to be going against anybody a few days later for the gold after playing the russians. yeh for USA!

That is part of the great story. They batlled that emotional let down and beat the Fins a few days later for the Gold. I remember all of the pundits and talking heads going on and on about how the USA team will struggle to win the Gold because of it. Well they beat it and teh Fins to win teh Gold. That is one of the reasons Sports Illustrated dubbed the "Miracle" as teh biggest Sports Moment of the 20th Century.

I give this movie 4 1/2 out of 5 stars. (the -1/2 star is because I think they should have kept the Torch Lighting scene)

BTW, the only profanity in the movie (that I noticed) is the word @$$.

I really liked Miracle....reminded of good fun popcorn sports movies from the 80s and early 90s....a refreshing break from recent cinematic fare.

The Hockey scenes were amongst the greatest sports cinematography ever...

and yes Big Trouble in Little China is Russels best work :)

i saw it today and it was awesome! It accurately portrays the negativity of 1979 and 1980 and how much the USA hockey team raised the spirits of the country.

Another little known fact about the USA - USSR game is that it was not shown live on ABC. The game was on tape delay.

I just saw Miracle today and thought it was awesome! I was really surprised at how much I liked it considering I don't really like to watch hockey, but it really kept my attention. It's such an interesting story, and even though it was based on a true story, I hadn't heard about it because I wasn't born until 1985, and like I said, I don't follow hockey :) Kurt Russell and all the other actors did a really great job at portraying their characters. I think Disney has been making a lot of really good live action movies lately (like Pirates and Freaky Friday) and hope all their movies coming out this year are just as good! (I can't wait for Hidalgo and Around the World in 80 Days!).

OMG...I don't remember that at all! I could've sworn I watched it live! That has totally slipped my pea brain.
