HBO made a great documentary about the 1980 USA Hockey team. It must of been a couple of years ago. Apparently, ABC tried to have the start time for the game moved to 8 pm NY time, but the USSR said NYET!

USSR had nothing to say about what timed the game was played. Just like we have no time on what time events are during present day olympics. If you would of watched that HBO special, all the way. The game wasnt shown in Russia till the following morning.

Thats right! The HBO special was wonderful!! My husband (being a former hockey player himself) loved every min. of it. We also saw the movie over the weekend. Talk about moving! If you are really hockey nuts like we are you will love this movie. getting back to the whole "when it was aired thing" They went ahead and played the game at 5 oclock pm...It was aired in the US later that night (I think  ,I can't remember) but the USSR did not see it until the next morning!!!!! The Russians went to bed thinking that they had beat the US and were well on their way to the gold. But it was a sad day behind the Iron Curtain when the game was aired.

Cuse, On the HBO special, the USSR was asked to switch their game from the early game to the late game (from 5pm to 8pm) and they said no. I never said anything about the game being broadcast to the USSR.
