Just a collection of odds and ends not reported elsewhere...
The Magic Kingdom main entrance road, World Drive, has been undergoing road repairs since May 23rd, ending on May 27th (tomorrow). So, there will be one fewer pothole on the way into the Magic Kingdom
Inside the park, they're testing a new guidebook for guests with pre-school aged children. It recommends shows, attractions, and even healthier food options as well as pointing the way to child care area etc. It's not a full guidemap, moreso meant as a compliment to the usual map.
Memorial Day brings back the "enhanced flag retreat" at Town Square. For those unfamiliar, this is a daily ceremony usually with a live band or tape orchestration (depending on crowds/availability) but the enhanced version features Voices of Liberty, the Mainstreet Philharmonic and CM's who are in the armed forces. It's at 5pm, like the normal daily retreat.
Did you know Disney cares about your health? Neither did I, until I saw the new guidemaps! Guidemaps and menus are now marked with little apples/mickeys (mapples?) pointing the way to healthier dining options. Also, quick service locations, like the Mara at Animal Kingdom Lodge, use the symbol to point out healthy quick serve options (it marks the food bins, etc). To me it looked like an effort in vain to distract you from the Zebra Domes they sell there (yes, the Mara has Zebra Domes to go!) but kudos to Disney for trying.
A VMK (that's Virtual Magic Kingdom) kiosk opens at the Mainstreet Cinema on June 1st with a guide to assist you in opening an account etc. The first Quest (park acticity that earns you something in the game) will be available at that location on June 13th.
Elsewhere - Chicken Little characters have preformed test sets of meet/greet at the Studios infront of the big giant hat in the past week.
