Walt Disney World Mind Bogglers

Some things that happen at WDW boggle the mind. Can be a huge as closing an attraction or as small as moving a prop from point a to point be.

I will throw one out, if you have any to add please join in.

It boggles my mind that they changed Dixie Landings to Port Orleans Riverside. Why do it? Both Port Orleans resorts kept their main buildings, so why make the change?

What boggles you mind?

It boggles my mind that they felt a need to put a giant Sorcerors Hat right in the middle of MGM. Don't get me wrong, I like the hat! It was really cool to be there when they were actually building it. Still I don't get why they felt like they needed it there.

The Riveride/Dixie Landings thing is another thing that makes me go hmmmm???

It boggles the mind about the board meeting which went..

"The entrance to Epcot looks too good. What can we do to totally it up "

"How about we take up all the floor space with giant gravestones and charge people to put their faces on them?"

"Cool idea - but I really want to see this area totally ruined. Anyone else got an idea?"

"How about we stick a giant arm out of the side of Spaceship earth. That will really make a mess of its symmetry?"

"I hate it - let's do it. Mmmwwwahhh haaa haaa"

"We need to draw more guests to DCA - I know, I know..... ToT, that worked at MGM 10 years ago......"

"Great idea, the ride is already developed..... it'll be cheap, EVERYONE will want to come to DCA now....."

"..... ..... that didn't work"

"We need to attract more guest to WDS - I know, I know..... ToT, that worked at MGM 10 years ago......"

"Great idea, the ride is already developed..... it'll be cheap EVERYONE will want to go come to WDS now....."

It boggles the mind that someone actually thought it was a good idea to close down 20K Leagues and then went on to leave this premium space empty for ten years.

It boggles me that Mickey's Philharmagic although a great great attraction basically just about is the same layout as the old Mickey Mouse Revue, why get rid of that when you know you're going to make an attraction similar to it.

Leave a Legacy as Barnum42 put it so creatively well. It is one of those things that make you go "what were they thinking?" and they were thinking as Barnum42 put it probably.

Yeah, I don't get why they did not just do bricks similar to the ones outside the Magic Kingdom. They are tasteful and don't take up any extra space. Bad move...

Good thread MrToad...

Thats the only one I think has an answer (whether or not its justifiable). It is an extension of the PC makeover of the parks. It ain't good to use the word Dixie, particularly in the south any longer.

As for the others I agree, particularly with the hat...also with a certain castle birthday cake...and my favorite that DisneyGirl beat me to... and unprecidented stockholder revolt that is spun, a minor change is made and another ME rubber stamp patsy is placed in his stead.

If I can add one, it's how long Pressler and company were allowed to hang on with one disaster after another followed by one promotion after another :veryconfu

That makes sense I guess. I understand why the word Dixie could be now a "bad" word. Though I never associated it with the reasons you are getting at. I just associated it with the south period not a timeframe but I guess I was mistaken. Does it originate from the time of Slavery or was it prior to that?

Thanks.

It should still be Dixie Landings. I hate political correctness!

"In Dixieland I'll take my stand to live and die for Dixie,
Away, Away, Away down south in Dixie!"

American by birth, Southern by the grace of God!

FYI: "Dixieland" was one of President Lincoln's favorite tunes!

*Awaits negative reputation points*

Amen. I could not have said it better myself. Long live the South! (Not trying to offend anyone here). Yes most likely it was changed due to political correctness. Nowadays you cant refer to the good ol South without someone complaining that they are offened for some dumb reason. But I still refer to it as Dixie Landings and always will refer to it as Dixie Landings.

Away down in Dixie!

I will always call it Dixie Landing too.

As for the rest of this: I never think of it being North and South, just one country as that is how it has been my entire life.
