Midwest Snow Storm Thread

To go along with the NE snow thread, I'm starting up one for all of us in the midwest.

12"+ right now as it is, and there's still plenty more to come. Chicago is getting 12"+ for only the 30th time or something like that ever in it's history, might be less than that actually.

Stay off the roads if you must, and get lots of pictures. I should have some up in a day or two if I can get out there.

If you really want some, you can take it all. I hate this stuff and wish it would just go away. I don't want to think about having to come back here over winter break once I move to FL. I'm not ever going to want to leave there....EVER!

The snow moved up Districts for Drama Club to Wednesday. But at least it gives us some more time to rehearse for One Act Play(We're doing The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet, which is obviously Romeo and Juliet but with elements of Dr. Seuss books within, primarily the Sneetches but also Green Eggs and Ham and The Zax.)

We're getting quite a bit here in beautiful West-Central Ohio. We've got several inches of snow with a few more coming, plus winds of 34 mph. and a temp of 14 and a wind chill of -1. Brrrrrrr.

We were supposed to get it, but it missed us. All we got was like a slight dusting. Figures that the one that the city is actually prepared for would miss us. Last time it snowed a big snow (a few weeks ago), they did a horrible job of clearing the roads.

Please, no more. I've had to shovel the driveway twice now, and I can't take more accumulation ... not to mention all of the drifting. I'm just south of McHenry, and 11 inches sounds about right.

I took the boys to the park this afternoon to go sledding, but it was just too windy to stand it for any length of time. They actually gave up before I did (after all that shoveling, my shoulders and back were more than happy to stand at the top of a hill and not have to move).

Well, we didn't make it on the thing Erika posted but I don't think it went west enough. We had just over 8 inches and then with drifting, most roads were basically one-way. I had to really plow through with my SUV to get through the drifts, some were well over 4 feet high. Four people overseas, that's like 1.3 meters.

Roads aren't cleared all the way yet and drifts on the side of highways are over 6' at places.

Finally dug out of 24 inches of snow and not counting snow drifts from 40MPH wind.

Came inside, mom called and needed help digging out. So loaded two shovels and the wife and tracked down to moms and dug her out.

Came home and the poor guy across the street was trying to dig himself out with a shovel. So decided to start the old snow blower and assist.

While doing that this thing came along to remove snow from the cul-de-sac. Removed his snow and another persons drive. There are still good people in this world :sohappy:

It's so funny to hear you guys talking about snow storms... I've never seen snow, and I would really like to be there to see it. But yeah, I've never shoveled any driveways, and it doesn't seem to be fun at all! And I still think I would freeze to death up there. And you guys would die here, it's boiling hot again... All year long...

By the way, I've posted some cool pictures on my photopage, some are from a paradise beach in Brazil, like 4 hours from Rio de Janeiro. Check them out!!!

I can take shoveling snow. It's hard work and I hate doing it, but it's at least doable. What's really hard is shoveling ice. We've been getting a lot of ice storms in the past few years and ice is nearly impossible to shovel. We had a major ice/snow storm in December and my mom and I spent days chiseling more and more off our driveway. We never did get it completely clear after hours of back breaking work.

This time they predicted an inch or so of sleet and another couple inches of snow. So, when the system went around us I was very happy. All we got was a dusting of snow, freezing drizzle, and very cold temps. I guess we have something to be thankful for this time around.

12 inches of snow in Rochester, MI and East Lansing, MI too. The maintenance people here at Michigan State don't seem to think that it's important to plow the parking lots where students park so when I came back today and tried to park, my car promptly got stuck and started to spin. Luckily my dad was there and was able to help me get it parked enough out of the way that there wouldn't be a problem. I just have to go dig it out before I can go anywhere. My dad, brother and I drove down to the Auto Show in Detroit yesterday in the middle of the snow. It was an interesting ride! Plus the roads in good old Rochester still have NOT been plowed. They're trying to save money so they only plow during buisness hours (M-F 8-5).

Again, I really wish I were there to see it. Why don't you guys send me some snow by mail? I can send you some tropical sun...

Tati, can you mail me a palm tree? I'll trade you all the snow in my yard for one palm tree. That would equal out to about 20,000 pounds or so of snow. If you want more, I'm sure my neighbors woulnd't mind getting rid of theirs too.

Well, Rio is not that full of palm trees, but... Yeah, I can send you one... It's unbearably hot today, I even saw a lady fainting on the street because of the heat. And I can't even wash my hair, because of this hair treatment... I can only wash my hair on Thursday!!!! I feel like throwing myself into the shower right now!

We drove down to the Auto Show in Detroit in the middle of the storm. Here are some pictures I took from the car.

Downtown Detroit about 10:30 am on the 22nd during the worst of the storm.
