Don't know if anyone is interested, but here it is:

Download link is here:

http://download.microsoft.com/downl...0-73cf11fdcdf8/WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe

MS KBase article with changes in SP2 Release:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;835935

Security updates and other features are well worth the upgrade, although the download is approx. 250MB so 56k'ers may want to wait until microsoft allow you to order the cd from their site.

Microsofts top ten reasons to download it: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/topten.mspx :D

It's the best popup blocker going, and the great thing is its integrated into the browser, and isnt a bolt on tool bar like all the 3rd party ones (which cause trouble of their own).

Before I add this, Is there a way that you can allow certain pop ups? For instance when giving reputation points to someone. I know when using Yahoo's pop up blocker I had to let it allow popups from WDWMagic and such. Thanks for the heads up.

Its much better ;) Snnce its in the core of IE, there is no overhead, and is more stable than bolting third party bits on.

The SP2 version gives you the choice of how it handles popups. By default, it only restricts automated popups that occur on page load. Anything you click on to launch a popup is unaffected by default. You can go to a higher blocking level, whereby it blocks every kind of popup. You can also specify domain names where you dont want ny blocking to take place. Overall its very impressive, should be all anyone needs in terms of popup defence.

I thought this was not going to be made available to the unwashed masses until the end of the month. Thanks for the URL - where did you get it from?

Too right, I dare not reveal my sources. :lookaroun

A friend sent me the link, I didn't realise it, and can't understand why MS haven't put it on automatic update yet, although when they do it will put a huge strain on their servers so my guess is that they may be releasing it in phases. I wouldn't worry about it though... if they didn't want us to have it they wouldn't put it on their servers :) .

From my C|NET Download Dispatch today:

The world of Windows news watchers has been abuzz over the upcoming release of Service Pack 2 for Windows XP. Microsoft is making the release available to Microsoft Developer Network members today, August 10, and will push it out to Windows users via the Automatic Update feature on August 25.

Have you got ad-aware? If you have spyware it's probably the best software available to get rid of it :) .
