A. The Festival of the Lion King at Animal Kingdom is the most popular show on the Disney Property
B. The Legend of the Lion King was a massive safety hazard--puppetteers could run into each other and get badly injured, so insurance costs kept rising.
C. The new show is not cheap.....

I think you took my post as a attack on the shows which it is not:

A. I am not saying it is not a well done show, they have a ton of talent and some amazing things ahppen in the show but it is "not my bag baby" and I have heard this from others also. I would actually thing Fantasmic! is one of the most popular, but I don't know the numbers game off the top of my head.
B. All shows are like this but I understand your point.
C. This show will be cheaper in the long run, one time thing to get it all set. As comparied to the day to day coast of the LOLK show.

Does anyone know how long LOLK stayed? It seems that is one of the spots in WDW that is always changing.

Can someone refresh my memory. I seem to remember in the 70s there was a show where there was an animatronic MICKEY dressed in contuctor coat with tails and he was leading an orchestra. If memory serves the instruments were played by other Disney charaters. I think this was in Fantasy land

Mickey's PhilharMagic

From what I have read in other WDW sites. Mickey's PhilharMagic will be open sometime in spring of 2003!:veryconfu The theme is supposed to be Mickey and his friends in 3-D.

The Mickey Mouse Revue (it was moved to Japan)

The Legend of the Lion King was a massive safety hazard--puppetteers could run into each other and get badly injured

Just a little over dramatic there. It's probably one of the least dangerous stage shows in the parks.

Hey, that sounds like that old Mickey cartoon where he conducts an orchestra and the tornado comes and blows them away!

"The Band Concert" (wasn't that also the first color mickey cartoon?)

Yes, I believe it was! And Donald was the one causing all the mischief in the cartoon.

OTH, it differs in that there is a certain character that is up to mischief during the performance...

hmm..:)

Donald would make sense since he was one of the stars of 'Working for Peanuts', an animated 3-D short that shown here before Legend of the Lion King moved in. Not to mention he always seems to cause mischief.

What a way to promote incorporate Lilo and Stitch...

Stitch could cause the mischief! (although I'm sure it'll either be Donald or Chip N Dale)

It didn't have many accidents, but it was seen by insurance companies as dangerous. Therefore, this show had very high insurance costs and its popularity did decline during its seven-year run...Disney saw no reason to keep both expensive Lion King shows with Animal Kingdom's version being so popular.

I can't beleive that you would want to see the AK show leave!
I think that Festival of Lion King is one of the greatest and most spectacular shows based on a movie that Disney has ever done. Am I alone on this???:fork:

They don't!!

The Festival of the Lion King is the one of the only reasons people still go to Animal Kingdom. We are talking about Disney getting rid of the Legend of the Lion King show at the Magic Kingdom. It closed in February 2002 to make room for Mickey's Philharmagic.

I would not really say based on a movie fits this show, this and Tarzan Rocks! both do the same thing where the title is the main draw then they do a lot of there own thing with the songs. I am saying that I know the only reason I will ever go see it again is if someone I am with really wants to see it.
