Has anyone done this with young children?

We would love to do this, but since it starts late I am worried they will not make it long? They normally go to bed at 8:30 - 9:00 and I wonder if they would be miserable?

We have done it several years with small children (even a 6 month old). I say go for it. There is so much going on that it will keep their attention and they will probably stay up later than their normal bed time.

One bit of advice. Plan a relaxing morning and early afternoon so they will be rested for the party. Don't try to do another park that morning, because they will be tired by that night. Just relax at your resort and then head over to MK about 4 or 5 and you will have a fantastic time!!!

I second the resting part. We did it with our oldest at 2 and did Animal Kingdom in the morning and she was exhausted. Every year since we have gone to DTD for relaxing shopping and then nap/rest time for afternoon. Head over around 4:00. We now always make reservations for Liberty Tree Tavern for an early supper - they waiters and waitresses dress up in Haunted Mansion type makeup. The characters are even dressed for Halloween. After that we head out to enjoy the park. We always view the second parade, but if you must see the first, then I would suggest not trying to see it on Main Street, because that is where everyone else will be. We usually keep the kids in the stroller and wonder around after the parade to shop and wait for most of the crowds to leave. The kids might fall asleep in the stroller, but in general they have made it to 10-11 very easily as long as they are well rested. Dress them up - my youngest decided not to wear hers last year (the temp had dropped to 50 degrees so she was cold). She cried the entire time we were there because she did not tough it out. My other was a cheerleader and we had a hard time getting her to wear her sweats because it covered her costume. Don't let age deter you, just rest and plan out the night a little and it will be a great time.

We're going to MNSSHP on Halloween..We're also planning on visiting the MK that morning but we'll be leaving at 1:00 so all the kids can go swim and then take a nap..Ages range from 7mos, 2yr, 3yr, 4yr, 9yr and then grandma/grandpa..LOL...I think when everyone gets rested they're ready for anything..I'm having the kids rest because like you I don't want them to miss out on the parade,FW,etc...Hope you have fun!

DS was 22 months when we went. We took the day off and just spent it at the pool with a good nap in the afternoon. DS had a great time trick or treating and he really liked the parade. We got to MK at about 4pm and had ADRs at 5pm. DS made it until about 1030pm before he crashed in his stroller. We then took our time leaving the park, hitting some stores on the way out while he slept.

We did it when my son was 18 months. We hit the MK early in the morning and didn't leave until late that night. He just napped in the stroller. He was good at that so we didn't have an issue with it. We also didn't have park hoppers at the time and weren't staying on property so we wanted to make the most of our tickets.

Dressing them up is really fun too. He went as Murray Wiggle. He was so into them at the time. Everyone loved his costume and it was easy to pack.

Thanks for the responses. I was thinking it would be fine, but I tend to think no sleep is great for my boys, they don't always agree, LOL.

Now i just have to convince their Dad that bedtime does not exist on vacation, he is Mr Schedule Man.:brick:

We went last year, DS was 2 and DD was 1. DS was Buzz and DD was the cutest Minnie ever:) We went to Walmart that moring and took a long nap and got to MK a little befor 4.00. The babies lasted till about 10.00 and were out. We took turns riding the Mountians while the kids were sleeping. It was a blast and we are going again, even with the large (IMHO) increase in price. DH even wants a costume this year. Oh and by staying late we got about 6 extra bags of candy on our way out from CM's trying to get rid of them. We didn't buy any candy for home on the 31st and still had candy left. Kids will be fine staying up late but I would also suggest not planning an early morning the next day either.

Remember that your MNSSHP ticket is your admission to the park as the party starts. If you spend the day relaxing at the resorts or shopping at DTD, you will not need to use a day on your ticket to go to the party.

This can be good or bad. If you are staying off property or are buying tickets day by day, you can save a bit of money by spending the day out of the parks and only using your MNSSHP ticket for entry that night. If you are buying a MYW multiday ticket or have booked your tickets as part of a package, you will have a one day ticket that will sit unused for each person in your party. With the MYW pricing structure, it is practically cheap to add just one day when you're buying at least three days. If you are staying for five days, either buy a four day ticket if you don't plan on going to a park that day, or live with the knowledge that you 'wasted' a day of your tickets.

I personally would recommend doing a light morning at one of the other parks, AK or MGM come to mind because you can go to either of those parks for three or four hours and get a few rides or shows done in that time, no problem. Then head back to the resort for lunch, a swim, and a nap. You could be snoozing by 2pm and wake up around 5pm to get ready to head to the MK for the party.
