(TSE:7867) has developed Mickey Mouse dolls for boys and men in partnership with Walt Disney Japan, a unit of U.S. entertainment giant Walt Disney Co.
The new dolls will be sold under the Coordies series brand. They will primarily be aimed boys in their late teens through men in their 30s by being attuned to popular fashion, music and sports and having a more rugged look.
</td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> </tr> <tr> <td> The first three dolls will be released in August and will be based on hip-hop, punk and surfing themes.
All of the dolls are made of soft vinyl with cloth apparel. They will be priced at 5,250 yen (US$45) and will be sold through variety stores, audiovisual and software retailers.
Tomy's Disney marketing department says 90 per cent of those who buy Mickey Mouse products are female. Tomy has a comprehensive master licensing agreement for toys with Walt Disney Japan, but this is the first time it has created a product that alters the image of one of Disney's characters.
Disney tends to be very strict in its copyright management, so such items are rare.
