Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway - Disneyland

"Taking it a step further" to me kind of implies taking the concept or technology a little further. Plussing the attraction in areas they felt could use a little improvement. Hopefully its all that plus at least one new scene but I'd be happy with them just tightening up the Florida version

The tornado scene is by far the worst scene so this would be a welcome change.

I haven't ridden the attraction, but I'm assuming you have. So the tornado is as lame in person as it is in the POVs? That's disappointing. Seems like such an easy scene to plus-up; hopefully they add some projections or wind or fog to Disneyland's scene.

My only other critical observation (again, from watching POVs, which may not be representative) is that the transitions between the track switch, wild west, and carnival scenes all seem pretty awkward. Perhaps an "addition" of some sort during these early scenes could make the experience more cohesive. The rest of the ride looks fantastic, IMO.

Yeah it’s maybe even worse in person. It’s very obviously a thin hallway, it’s empty, corny, and redundant. There are so many possible better uses of the space.

The transition from the train track to the Wild West is bad because it draws your attention to the floor but then immediately abandons the floor as part of the theming. How hard would it have been to just paint it like sand?

Overall the ride is super cute and charming, those are just a couple of flaws Ken Potrocks is about to fix!

Got to ride MMRR for the first time a few weeks ago. Was looking forward to it but walked away unimpressed. Not entirely sure what changes they're planning on making but I doubt they'd be substantial enough get to me to hop in line here at DL.

On the bright side, since I got to ride it the one time and didn't care for it, it means I don't need to worry about trying to find a way to work it into my day here in Anaheim! -and I don't need to worry about any sort of long lines or virtual queues for it when it opens. Hopefully others will enjoy it more than I did.

Dammit. I have a feeling this is going to be my take. I was super excited for it when it was announced. Was a lot less excited when I saw ride through videos after it opened at DHS. Still holding out hope that it’s just one of those attractions that aren’t done any justice by videos. With that said I’m a pretty good judge of a ride experience by watching videos so I’m not holding my breath. I’m just trying to be optimistic and still think it’s a great addition for DLR even if it misses the mark slightly. Hoping the DLR additions elevate the attraction up a notch.

Bummer. I was kind of hoping I was wrong.

Probably not that hard. I mean, the floors on Rise are themed, right?

After walking away from it and dwelling on it a bit after riding, I'd say the videos were actually better than what I experienced in person. It could be that I'm just jaded after something like Rise of the Resistance. It could also be that we had a vehicle that was constantly in a bad spot no matter which sequence we were in. Ex. the scene where the factory converts to a park, we ended up towards the back of that show scene and so we were the first car to leave it, which meant we barely got to see any of the scene transform before we had left it.

It just sort of felt empty and lifeless to me because most of it is just projections on walls (especially in the wild west room). They're well done projections, don't get me wrong but that sort of thing just doesn't do it for me alone. As an effect to compliment more impressive builds, I think projectors can work wonders and add a lot of life to a scene (something like Mara coming to life and cracking apart on Indiana Jones) but here, they just weren't enough to carry their own attraction in my eyes. Maybe it looked better on video to me because watching a YouTube video is akin to watching the kind of cartoons on which the attraction is based. -and while I've only recently started watching and enjoying the 2013-2018 Mickey Mouse shorts, moving through the physical space of the attraction didn't feel right.

I hope I'm wrong and that you enjoy yourself very much. I do agree adding anything to the Toontown area (where it feels like it belongs) will be a win overall for the resort, especially since it's an addition and not replacing anything major. -and hopefully DL's has something up it's sleeve to impress Guests more than WDW's. I do think the bit in the queue where you walk into the cartoon is an impressive and fun moment, though.

But the ride experience itself? It wasn't like, awful or anything. It was just.. meh. Not impressed.

It's funny you bring up the Wild West Room, that's always been the least impressive room to me due to how bare it looks and how bright it is. People always say you can't judge a ride off a video and yet time and time again people that have ridden it end up with the same opinions as I do from Day 1 POV's.

My favorite scenes are the train tunnel, the big city scene and the park scene at night. The carnival scene looks good too but also comes across a bit bare. I think if every room looked as 3D as the Big City scene (and they fix a few of the other minor issues) this attraction would have been a home run.

@DavidDL what car were you in? I believe I read car 3 gives the best ride experience and that cars 1 and 4 aren't really good

Funnily enough, I can answer this because I took a photo while loading. We were seated in Car 2, but by the end of the trip we had reattached to the train as Car 1, which leads me to believe you never really know where you are going to end up in terms of show scenes when you ride.
