Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway - Disneyland

Of course, the flip side here is the insinuation here that posts you disagree with that are negative are somehow a poster trying to display superiority.

This is a Disneyland bored. 99% of the posts here can't be considered intellectual, we're all just a group of fans who love the parks and love talking about what we love and don't love about them. I promise no one here considers them self an intellectual superior because they didn't think Pixar Pier was a good overlay.
When the sign takes dang near 6 months to be completely installed and is finished with ornamentation from your local Cost Plus World Market, I think it's okay to sit back and scratch your head about what the heck happened.
I mean Pixar Pier was a waste of money to retheme instead of upgrading the actual pier, that's not negative to talk about, but you know what I mean.

It's like, they bring back Electrical Parade, but instead of just one or two posts discussing that it's old, it's like 90%. The over-emphasis on the negatives just seems odd for people who are fans that being in Florida, would kill for any night parade at all.

I expect it to be human nature because we find pleasure in discussing aspects that we want to point out. Thus, the reason why it seems like the world is ending.

Nothing to do with intellectual capacity like you're suggesting.

I suggested nothing of the sort.

It's not that, it's the overemphasis on small gripes that seem for the sake of it. Pixar Pier was universally panned as a waste of money and a departure from theme. Even Bob Iger did not like changing the California Screamin'.

That's different than say, "The Mickey ride will overcrowd Toontown, oh no!" upon hearing the announcement instead of having a more jovial attitude. In Orlando, we lost one of the park's headliners for it, and Disneyland got Star Wars Land too at zero capacity cost, in an already ride-heavy park. This is a good thing.

There's one thing to discuss the cons of something, but it seems so much of this board (and forums in general), give backhanded endorsements to negativity for the sake of it. Disneyland rocks people! They make mistakes, but it's improved over the last decade even with some setbacks (like Pixar Pier).

EDIT: My text didn't save for some reason.

My comment which explicitly says that no one here thinks their views are rooted in their intelligence was a direct response to this claim-

Here’s the thing, negativity, at least at the level and kind we see on discussion boards, isn’t just “for the sake of it.” There has always been a human subconscious feeling that somehow negativity proves ones superior knowledge/intelligence on any given subject.

Which is laughable. As I said, no one here thinks that being negative proves their superior knowledge/intelligence.

Except for me, since I'm smarter than all y'all :p:angelic:. And while I'm at it- @TROR is easily the most intectual one here!

Mickey looks better than I expected it to look! I do think the leftover Chinese theater lobby from the GMR doesn't fit the tone of the rest of the attraction. Hopefully the cartoon theater queue at Disneyland will overall fit the attraction better.

Hopefully! From the concept art, Disneyland's queue looked cheaper than I expected, but the facade looked like it properly fit in Toontown, and as you said, it makes more sense.

It looks like Mickey is indeed a solid E-ticket. Also the way they layered screens to give it a 3D effect is really well done.

::Spoiler Alert::
Also, not the entire ride, but still... enjoy :)

Wow, that looks very impressive. It's certainly a new kind of E Ticket, that's for sure. I really like the looks of it so far.

By this time tomorrow we should have plenty of 4K YouTube videos to watch of the full experience. As if Super Tuesday wasn't going to be entertaining enough already!

(TP2000 Public Service Announcement: I voted yesterday and got a free sticker! Have you voted? There's 1.3 Billion Chinese folks, plus 50 million Cubans and North Koreans, who would love to have the privilege of voting in a free and fair election. If your state has a Primary election on Super Tuesday and you haven't already voted, go VOTE on Tuesday!)

But judging from that first look at Runaway Railway, this seems like a really nice addition to DHS who sorely needs new rides and needed them yesterday. But I think this will be a great addition for Disneyland. It's funny, both Star Wars Land rides left me just a tad underwhelmed, but this Runaway Railway ride seems to hold quite a bit of promise. We needed some good news around here!

As a reminder, the Disney Parks Blog team will be emptying out their cubicle farm tomorrow to present a live stream of the Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway Opening Ceremony on Tuesday at 4:20pm Pacific, and 5:20pm Mountain. You may find the live stream on the Disney Parks Blog, and if the opening ceremonies for the Star Wars Land stuff is any indication, there's going to be some very perky and very vapid commentary! But it should be fun to watch, at least until the polls close later Tuesday evening.

The visuals looks great but I’m stating starting to feel like these trackless ride systems are a tad bit overrated. Or maybe it’s how these new attractions are designed? They re just not intimate enough for attractions that don’t have any thrill factor. WDI seems to be nailing the visuals of late but I feel like they are missing the mark on the overall ride experience.

The FL dark rides are not fast (although Toad has a nice pace) but they make up for it with intimacy and old school charm. Attractions like HM and POTC aren’t thrilling (except for the drops in POTC) but it doesn’t matter because they contain amazing atmospheres, AAs, music and a combination of tight spaces and huge epic show rooms like the battle scene. Splash Mountain is amazing when everything is working because you have it all... thrills, pace, atmosphere, music etc. The Mountain coasters are great because they provide just enough thrill, are repeatable and have great theming to boot. These newer attractions to me are in a kind of no mans land that are relying mostly on tech and visuals but are lacking a certain depth in atmosphere and/ or intimacy to make up for the lack of thrills.

Anyway I am excited for this ride to come to DLR and visually it looks stunning for the most part- like you really stepped into a cartoon.

Runaway Railway implies something more thrilling than an absurdly slow-moving ride with screens.
While the video has me loving the ride’s look, I agree the name is going to mislead a lot of folks into expecting a thrill ride. Maybe they should create a parody of a warning sign in the queue: “WARNING: Mickey’s Runaway Railway is NOT a high speed, turbulent thrill ride. It contains no sharp turns or sudden drops and tops out at 5 MPH” Etc.

I think RR looks great, but I agree the trackless ride systems (in their current form) sacrifice intimacy. I’m not a fan of all the open flooring and empty space just so the cars can waltz around like forklifts in a warehouse.

BUT, so far Imagineering seems to be coming up with clever ways to pair the system with the theme: The idea of a train coming apart in classic cartoon fashion and then reassembling at the end with the engineer unaware that anything went wrong is pretty wonderful. I think that’s enough to justify the trackless system here.

It's about damn time they started using trackless tech in America amirite?:angelic:

Hunny Hunt was the first iteration, but interestingly, the load/unload was on sort of guide rail chain.

After, some flat rides like Aquatopia, and much later on the second Luigi flat ride came to be.

Ratatouille and Mystic Manor shared their tech as Disney's dark ride version #2 except for a small motion base integrated on Rat's puck.

Rise of the Resistance and seemingly Mickey, use the same or similar system, but I have no idea. They just look the same in that they don't have pucks and they are also both capable of varying levels of acceleration.

Ironically, Mystic Manor and Ratatouille use trackless with little importance, but it doesn't detract all that much. Tokyo's Beauty uses an animatronic non-passenger vehicle like Pooh instead of Rise or Mickey where the vehicle itself is also part of the story.

With exception to Rise, they all suffer a 'flatness,' but it doesn't hurt the parks since there is so much variation of attractions and tech. There are a few intimate moments in every trackless ride, but overall you feel there are gaps, so I definitely see that point. I think ride variation is what's more important, however. Maybe this decade will see the criminally underused EMV at more parks after trackless was king of the 10's, or even Shanghai Pirates' tech.

Trackless is at its peak when vehicles participate in the story.
