Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway - Disneyland

I wouldn't say the park as a whole is a direct copy. There's a lot of Disneyland in the mix too. Most notably Space Mountain and Pirates. The original framework is a weird mashup of copies of magic kingdom attractions from Orlando and Anaheim.

And that’s where the charm comes from, for me. I love having Snow Whites wishing well next to Cinderella Castle. Having the Crystal Palace steps away from the Plaza Pavilion Restaurant. New Orleans Square with a Theatre! A Critter Country but on a scale you would see in Florida. And of course it is still the most impeccably maintained of the magic kingdom parks. The original portions of Fantasyland and Tomorrowland desperately need a refresh, but at least they still look new.

ToonTown, specifically, works overall much better at Disneyland since it’s under the railroad track and feels like a separate world. But again, the one in Tokyo feels clean and fresh.

The more I see pics of Tokyo DL the more I realize all the praise in regards to the Tokyo resort must be towards Tokyo Disney Sea because their castle park doesn’t look that impressive. It looks old but not in a charming way like DL.

It's a Magic kingdom more than a Disneyland, with unfortunate coloured slurry walkways.

I have a feeling the opinions of the park tend to be more positive from East Coasters.

That said Tokyo's Magic Kingdom is eventually supposed to get a top to bottom overhaul with expansion making its way across the park, which should eventually help it get more character.

I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed - but is anything being removed at Runaway Railway's expense? Cartoon Spin?
It appears that the only thing that will be lost is Toontown City Hall to make way for the attraction's entrance. The ride itself is being built in a backstage area.

The concept art shows to have some type of hills in the back so I would think they would return.

It looks like we will get a Bountiful farm like background. some small 3 dimensional panels up front and a big mural painted on the building wall.

I do hope i am wrong, i would prefer 3 dimensional pieces of a cityscape themed to match the tall wacky building in cartoon portion of the roger rabbit movie. something comical that would continue the facades of the rest of the land

Walking through the new BatB area is so weird. It feels like a totally different park, much like Magic Kingdom’s New Fantasyland. I have mixed feelings about that, even if the new ride and show will likely be great.

Disneyland has never fully recovered from the influence of Paul Pressler and Kim Irvine. Many attractions are in poor shape or simply not the best versions. Ticket prices are higher than other Disneylands. Tomorrowland is a mess, and the money spent on SWGE should have been spent on improving the rest of the park. Mr Lincoln should not close for movie trailers.

All my opinions though, I know others think it’s the best MK for theirs.

I agree.

Still, please exit stage right.

Knowing what we now, who else would have been cool with Big Thunder BBQ and Petting zoo staying put and a either a Frontierland And/ or Fantasyland expansion going into the entire east side of SWL with ROTR where it is now?

What would the waits in Anaheim be for that Peter Pan Soarin ride going to Tokyo?

I would have loved it if they had kept the BBQ eatery.

I think they missed an opportunity to use some land that is now just a big dirt berm. A structure could have been built in the large Berm section between the Frontierland entrance and the Fantasyland entrance. An indoor eatery with a mining cave theme would have been very popular. The entrance to this place would have been where they placed the nicely themed mine shaft door within perfect access to the main Frontierland path.

This same facility could have also been a dual purpose eatery with a themed walk up access vending area on the SWGE side. The ribs could have been sold as a single snack similar to bengal bar-b-que skewers with no need for an additional kitchen. Another item that could be sold are those turkey legs everyone seems to love. Just add some clever alien animal part names and they have another much needed food location for SWGE edge as well.

The area marked in red is big enough for something like that and the train tracks are elevated high enough as well. A structure topped with some dirt and some landscping like what they did for the Fantasmic maintenance bay.

I agree, but also disagree. All castle parks, except DLP, need to rework their Tomorrowland’s. None of them are even decently okay. Disneyland’s prices are at the highest, but it packs in the most punch. After visiting TDL multiple times, I can easily say it’s one of my least favorite castle parks. Nothing blends well together and I really didn’t see that outstanding maintenance everyone speaks of. It seemed lime a park in desperate need of paint, especially that Monsters attraction.
